The files keep coming. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi intelligence agency documents are now in the hands of the CIA and Iraqi opposition groups, who’ve collected them from ministries across Baghdad.

Though most are still under CIA control, their contents are beginning to emerge: The latest, the secret police files on Al Jazeera, the Arab satellite news channel, described by the Iraqis as “a mobilised instrument of our propaganda”. The Files boast of what they call “close cooperation” with Al Jazeera executives

The Weekly Standard just did an article I can't seem to find at the moment on many arab as well as "western" journalist being on Hussein's payroll. It was well known that journalist were receiving cars, jewelry and cash to report positively about Iraq and Hussein. I'll lok for the article.

Look at this stunner....

The intelligence agency documents include files on three agents: two are Baghdad-based employees, the third is a senior Qatar-based executive. His file includes details of a gift of gold to his wife. It talks of his efforts to get air time for Iraqi officials.

Also in his file, a note confirming that copies of letters sent to Al Jazeera by Osama Bin Laden in the wake of 9/11, were passed to Baghdad.

Lets post all of this for everyone to see it, not just our snips and remarks:

Al-Jazeera allegations
Iraq

Published: 10-May-2003
By: Ian Williams

Documents have come to light which suggest three Al Jazeera employees in Baghdad were also working for Saddam Husseins regime. Al Jazeera deny any wrong doing.

The Files boast of what they call “close cooperation” with Al Jazeera executives.

Al-Jazeera, based in Gulf State of Qatar, has enjoyed good access to officials and facilities in Iraq – they had the first pictures of what was thought to be Saddam’s safe house.

The Americans and British accused them of bias during the war, and were outraged when the station showed pictures of Coalition POWs.

Full details of the files will be published in the Sunday Times tomorrow, whose correspondent has spent several days examining them.

Al-Jazeera has defended its war coverage as robust and independent, more prepared to show the full horrors of the war. Its own office was bombed and one correspondent killed during the American assault on Baghdad.

Al Jazeera executives in the city were not available for comment, but will probably see the release of the files as a further effort to tarnish their name – especially given that the intelligence agency documents are controlled by Ahmed Chalabi’s Iraqi National Congress, and by the CIA.

And of course under Saddam Hussein it was virtually impossible for and news organisation trying to work in Iraq not to have some sort of contact with the security apparatus. The question raised by the files is whether Al Jazeera went further than this and in the process compromised their independence.

This is a great find, and would you please post it as a separate thread. Thanks.

A few paragraphs from this great article:

In an April 2, 2003, speech in New York City, British home secretary David Blunkett complained about Arab journalism. "It's hard to get the true facts if the reporters of Al Jazeera are actually linked into, and are only there because they are provided with facilities and support from the regime." The accusation caused a minor stir in Britain, with several scathing editorials in left-wing newspapers calling for Blunkett's head.

In fact, he may have simply revealed something that wasn't meant for public consumption. According to the CIA report, "Saddam's son Uday . . . assigned a writer, closely associated to him, Rahim Mizyad, as the correspondent to the al-Jazirah satellite television channel. Mizyad also is head of several weekly newspapers in Iraq and General Press Coordinator of all Iraqi governates, but Uday oversees his work."

SALAMA NIMAT, the Jordanian journalist, says it's not just Arab journalists who took money. "The Western media has been playing the game, too, including Americans."

In Dearborn, Michigan, one radio station has for years broadcast a weekly, two-hour pro-Saddam program. According to Iraqi Americans who monitored the broadcasts, each program began with the Baath party anthem.

Ismail Mansour, a Pentagon-trained Iraqi American working with coalition forces in Iraq, says the regime's money reached well inside the United States, going to journalists and others. "In America, Saddam friends give money and they make protest," he says. "In the Arab world, it's the same thing. They pay money to do that."

To my pingees. This has some great data re some of our favorites like Ritter, the Perv. McDermott, the congressit bought for only $5,000, and others.

duh! alert ... Al Jazeera always has the bin Laden videos, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed videos (when he was free), always shows things from Yasser Arafat's twisted viewpoint ...

and they're just NOW figuring out what Al Jazeera is? ... it's a propaganda machine to stir up the Islamic world against Israel, USA, Great Britain and any other nation that doesn't care to "submit" ...

Did you see that closing interchange between Putie and Tony Blair about a week and a half ago? Tony just smiled and basically told Putie, that he was lying about no WMDS in Iraq, just to wait and see. Putie looked like Tony hit the side of his head with a cricket bat.

I think that both MI6 and the CIA have tons of data, and they are making some of it available to trusted media people to pull the plug ont these Wh$res for $oddomite.

There are probably some closed door suggestions going on that would stun all of us. If we see well known backers of $oddomite resigning/retiring to spend more time with their families, we will know the closed door technique is working.
