This nation has had tubercular hospitals before so there would be an automatic switch over for designated hospitals for any major contagious illness...the hard part would be maintaining healthy staff and weeding out SARS from other respiratory illnesses/flu.

We have to remain hopeful that the US won't be hit hard by this plague, that the authorities will clamp down on the borders and the travel into here from the infected zones.

You have children, as I do. Have you given any thought to what a nightmare this coming flu season is going to be? Especially if the SARS numbers are continuing to climb.

Oh yes, it has been a continual concern and we are trying to prepare to batten down the hatches. I home educate them already which in itself keeps down infections as the homeschoolers tend to get together with more flexibility and health consideration. I have a freezer and have been keeping it and the pantry stocked ( gallons of milk in plastic jugs can be frozen - just take a cup off for expansion.)In August I will be buying most of the meat for the next year.

Start here.

http://www.maps-of-china.com/

Personally I'm only familiar with the Guangdong province, the cities of Fuyong Shen Zhen and Beijing as well as Hong Kong.

There are no really good maps of China. I've looked. We've(my company) found that the best plan is to go to a place and find a local map. In mainland China, you have to file a travel plan with the gov't if you intend on going anywhere so I guess the Chinese don't feel the need to make good comprehensive maps like that which can be found of the US in any bookstore or gas station.

Health care workers can remain free from SARS if they dress appropriately for ALL patients, which includes masks, gloves, goggles, and barrier-style clothing.

Masks and frequent handwashing (between each patient) are probably reasonable compromises.

Alcohol-based handcleaner is supposed to work as well as soap and water.

Thank you! I have been hearing about this different cities and provinces in China but have had trouble placing them as to just where in China they were. I the site you pointed out looks to be of great help.
