Arizona Governor visits a controversial Tucson church

5/10/03 -- KVOA -- Tucson, Arizona

Governor Janet Napolitano surprised many by visiting a controversial church. St. John's just started a new program that aids illegal immigrants. Many wonder how this is legal?

Bishop Gerald Kicani and St. John's parish welcomed Governor Napolitano with open arms. Eager to show off their new program, called Casa San Juan.

Bishop Kicanis says, "We have a responsibility to attend to those who are most in need, and that's what casa san juan is trying to do."

The privately funded program answers questions about citizenship, how to access healthcare...but for many they just need help with basic human needs.

Director Aida Rios says, "They come in here, they can't afford to feed their kids pay rent cover their health with what they make."

Rios says many employers take advantage of illegal immigrants. She says "we're talking three dollars an hour, dishwashing, we're talking they work three months, and they don't even get paid they're fired, that's bad."

While some people think aiding illegal immigrants is wrong...what casa san juan is doing is not illegal. Because they don't provide shelter for illegal immigrants.

Governor Napolitano says she fully supports the program, even if it supports illegal immigrants. Napolitano says, "At this level it doesn't strike me as all that important, we have a border issues, but I think this is people. I think it indicates a committment to others that we need in Arizona."

The author is a blithering idiot.

"Governor Napolitano says she fully supports the program, even if it supports illegal immigrants. Napolitano says, "At this level it doesn't strike me as all that important"

The author, "NOT reporter", should be asking the 'gov' what part of her OATH of OFFICE didn't she understand - other than the part about UPHOLDING the LAW???

Again, I ask: how is she breaking the law?

I don't believe just because she supports something that means she isn't upholding the constitutional duties of her office?

That's like saying that Ashcroft isn't upholding the constitutional duties of his office because he's against abortion which is legal...

Unless she vetoes it, your above can't even possibly come true...

In CA we're on the HONOR(LOL) system. Just say you're a citizen and you can register as often as you like.

And besides... the article doesn't state that she personally knows any illegals who are residing and receiving aid from this program does it?

You can also refer to this link. I trust FAIR considerably more than I trust that 'Rat Nappy.

"Harboring means any conduct that tends to substantially facilitate an alien to remain in the U.S. illegally."

Paying the rent of a bunch of these pests qualifies as harboring, IMO.

We deserve her. Matt Salmon ran a lousy campaign. We never heard of her work representing Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas hearings. We never heard of her ban of Christmas trees and other Christmas symbols at the A.G.'s Office. We never heard of how badly the A.G.'s office was run during her tenure. Salmon spent all his money in the primary and the dirt Napolitano threw at him went unanswered until the last minute. There were no issue ads run by national groups like Club for Growth and others despite the fact that these groups dislike her. Everyone fell asleep and now we are stuck.

Moreover she is an incumbent with the adoring support of the Republic and whatever passes for the rest of the local Phoenix and Tucson media. She was beatable the first time around had Salmon's campaign beed professionally run, but unless she screws up hugely and often over the next three years we will be stuck with her until 2011.

I didn't accuse Nappy of a crime, but she condones what this Bishop is doing, OK? Sheesh. She should be calling for a federal investigation into the activities of that church, not drooling over their outrageous and blatant lawbreaking.

"We never heard of her work representing Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas hearings."

I knew about it.

"We never heard of her ban of Christmas trees and other Christmas symbols at the A.G.'s Office."

As a lowly state worker in another state department I heard about it.

So what is your excuse?

Is the author incorrect when he states its legal?

That's right, the writer is incorrect. That's not uncommon with KVOA's pinheads, however.

The author stated that she didn't have any personal knowledge of any illegal immigrant... If my understanding of the law is correct, she is in compliance with the law.

I knew it too. But I knew it from watching the Thomas hearings those many years ago and from people I know at the A.G.'s Office. I most assuredly did not know it from Matt Salmon or his campaign.
