Despite producing what MCI called "some of the highest likability scores for any of our spokespeople ever," Danny Glover may be dropped as a spokesman for the telephone company because of his recent political comments, according to published reports. Several conservative groups have called for a boycott against MCI because of Glover's recent attacks on President Bush and favorable comments about Fidel Castro. In defending its deal with Glover, MCI said in a statement: "We are currently reviewing our options for new product campaigns that are more in line with our corporate brand advertising work."
TOPICS: News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: dannyglover
And, just who did they ask, concerning those "likability scores?"
To: Paul Atreides
Well, if they asked me about liking him, based on his job skills (actor) I would rank him highly. He's pretty good at acting.
Which makes it all the more important that he be pulled back from the MCI ads - his political stance is delusional. Hawking any product other than himself feeds his delusion.

I dropped MCI. When they called (as always happens when you change carrier,) I said the reason was Danny Glover. The conversation went like this:
MCI rep: "But he (Glover) is just promoting the Neighborhood deal."
Me: "He's the spokesman for MCI."
MCI rep: "I wish management would fire him."
Me: "When they do, I may reconsider my decision."
To: Paul Atreides
'Bout damned time!!!!!!
I wrote and called MCI to voice my disgust concerning their idiotic choice of Glover as a spokesman, only to receive arrogant form-letter responses. I guess they finally saw their bottom line slipping.
Its becoming very unprofitable to be an America-hating company or celebrity.

Keep your eyes peeled. The left will soon flip the meaning of the term PC, just like they did with "family values" after the Reagan years.

Unless I am mistaken, they hired Glover AFTER some of his controversial statements had been made. Am I correct in saying this?
To: Paul Atreides
Probably asked employees at Hillary's office.
To: Paul Atreides
I'm not sure when they hired him, but the commercials started running after he ran his mouth. Oddly enough, the ads ran during almost every FOX News break. The viewers of FOX News aren't exactly the demographic Mr. Glover would appeal to, huh?
To: Paul Atreides
Title's a lie.
He's politically CORRECT.
He's just morally, factually, ethically, and spiritually incorrect.

I wish they did can him from caller backlash.
However, I think I heard/read somewhere where the ad campaign had run its course and was not being removed for any particular reason? Can anyone out there corroborate my perceptions?

Got the long awaited call from MCI last evening, offering me some deal to change my calling service to MCI. I politely let the guy get about three sentences in and, with all that delightful anticipation built up, hit him with, "I'll NEVER use MCI because of their association with Danny Glover."
I hung up chuckling and I could still hear him almost yelling as I put the reciever down at arm's length, something like, "Danny Gover's going to be fired....don't hang up....We can offer...!"
Click. Aaaaaaahhh....Life's too good.

OK, I'm ROFL at MYSELF - when I first read this, my mind completely skipped the "k" in "likability", and I was shocked for a moment at the candidness of this statement!

Or journalist/reporter. But we must be patient -- the DemocRAT Party's useful idiots are emotionally immature, vacuous, slow learners. If they weren't, they wouldn't vote DemocRAT.
Here is a copy of a letter my brother sent to the editor of the Detroit News today:
To:
lberman@detnews.com Subject: Your column in the Thursday, 5-15-03, Detroit News
Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 10:04:58 -0400
Dear Ms. Berman,
I seldom write to a columnist, but your column finally drove me to it.
You seem to be righteously defending Actor Danny Glover's right to speak his mind about President Bush and the Iraqi war on public television, and you question why he should be afraid of losing his job because of it.
Well DUH, wouldn't you expect to lose your own job if you said things that were unpopular, and more importantly, destructive, at your company.
And don't confuse honest dissent with destructive behavior that aids our enemies.
If what Glover and others like him, says is disliked by enough people (his audience) then he loses his following (ratings) and his job.
What's so mysterious about this? As a public person, he assumes the risks and the rewards.
When a public personality is smart enough to keep his unpopular personal opinions to himself, he can enjoy the rewards of appearing to be an intelligent, logical, loyal American. But if he opens his mouth and reveals who he really is, then he risks becoming unpopular.
Of course, it's his right to become unpopular, just as it's my (or Mr. Scarborough's) right to publically criticize him.
His problem, like the Dixie Chicks you mention, is that he thought popularity meant that people thought as he did.
Well, surprise!
Why don't you people seem to understand that the vast majority of Americans are fed up with popular actors and other so called "public spokespersons" criticizing our President when he's trying to do the right thing to defend us against the evildoers of the world?
Especially after having endured 8 years of that immoral conman called Bill Clinton.
Certainly everyone has the right to express their opinion. But, in an open society like ours, it will inevitably have consequences. After 9-11, you better prepare for much more
serious consequences.
As a "public spokesperson" yourself, remember that your job is also on the line.
Due to articles like yours, I'm seriously considering not renewing my subscription to the Detroit News. I hope this gives you a new perspective.
A Patriotic American fed up with Democrats, and other destructive individuals,
[signed: PW]
