Such designation renders the site untouchable to Westerners and America will insist that that place can only be under Moslem rule. Jerusalem has been Islam's 3rd holiest site only since the arabs came to understand this quirk in the American psyche.

True, but the Left gleefully overlooks such things when it suits their purposes. Bottom line: if a white person does something, it's awful and wrong; if a white male does something, it's a gawdawful absolute oppressive abomination. But if a "person of color" does that same something, it must be "respected" in the "interests of cultural diversity."

Sounds funny, but it's not.
