The groups causing the problems today, such as the ACLU and teachers unions were once communist fronts (they still are but the Kremlin isn't funding them anymore..lol).

If more people knew that, perhaps they would think a little about what these organizations are doing to America and that their rhetoric does not match, nor was ever intended to match, their goals.

The communist riots at Berkeley are always portrayed in the major press as being student, not Red, operations. Seldom, if ever, do we see pictures of the rioting commies at work. The press only shows the police at the riots. This amounts to censoring the news in favor of the Reds.

Failure to report the dark history of the ACLU is another example of press censorship that benefits these Reds.

Yes, it was a bunch of idealists who wanted the right to speak freely. What BS we were fed.

Do you know of other California Un-American Activities--reports? I've found one other from the early 1960s but they go back to the late 1940s. California called the Hollywood crowd to testify before the U.S. House did. The transcripts are public but I can't find them on the net. All I've read about them is that they exist and they were unsealed a few years back. The media not reporting on the early hearings means there must be some great information in them...

What is amazing is how weak the establishment was. The New Left simply walked in and took it over.
I don't know which is more amazing--the strength of the actual Establishment or its ability to hide in plain sight. In effect, I guess, they are the same thing.

Look--using a mirror, so you don't turn to stone--at an episode of Jerry Springer, and you'll see the extent people will go to to get their "15 minutes of fame." Big Media is the actual Establishment, and anyone else who pretends to that status will get his head handed to him.

See, for instance, the actual establishment's treatment of GM bigwig Charles Wilson when he said "What's good for the country is good for General Motors." Journalism converted that to "What's good for General Motors is good for the country," and nearly denied him the post of Secretary of Defense that Eisenhower had nominated him to.

in the 1970's we were told over and over and over at the university, that the "establishment" was "big brother", and that the left would prevent 1984. 1984 came and went.

and it turned out that the left was now the establishment. they have controlled the major television networks, npr and pubic tv, hollywood, and the vast majority of newspapers in the united states. this began with fdr and eleanor, continued with lbj and his vietnam war, and increased with the new left. the boomer generation and their new left views are the dominant paradigm.

rush limbaugh and his followers have improved things, as have fox tv, and the internet. but talk radio and the internet reach few people. only fox tv reaches a wide audience, and, no wonder the dems are so angry at murdoch.

I wonder if FNC reaches as many people as Rush's 20 million. It may be tops in cable, but cable ain't broadcast, unfortunately. Still, some probably listen to other conservative talk radio and not to Rush.

In principle the Internet deserves more government support/defference than radio/TV, because the First Amendment speaks to equality before the law in our ability to use our money to speak, literallly and figuratively. That is turned on its head by the FCC-defined right to listen to the Establishment--and concommitant duty to shut up. In any event we can hope that the internet will continue to grow at the expense of broadcast journalism.
