No, our anger at the french is that they actively sought to undermine us at the UN. Germany did not, neither did the Russians. The french, however, traveled to the African countries and twisted arms, bribed etc.
In addition, we've listened to virulant anti-Americanism coming from the french for years, this was merely the topper. The desicration of the British military cemetary in france didn't help a lot either. The entire country should have been up in arms over that, but the french let it pass. Only a couple of old vets from WWII bothered to say anything (bless their hearts) but the rest of the country remained disgustinly quiet.

You are so right. When I was in Naval Pre-flight school in 53 two of my roommates were french cadets. The fourth roommate and I had to physically throw them in the shower to get rid of the body odor in the room
