Actually, the Coosa and the Tallapoosa are two separate rivers. Both originate in the State of Georgia, wind their way into eastern Alabama, and converge between Wetumpka and Montgomery to form the Alabama River. The Coosa has six dams in Alabama, forming Lakes Jordan, Mitchell, Lay, Logan-Martin, Neely-Henry, and Weiss. The Tallapoosa has four dams in Alabama, forming Lakes Thurlow, Yates, Martin and Harris. Great fishing, water sports and scenery!

Thanks for remembering Auburn University - another treasure found in East Alabama!

Ballparks are full of parents watching children and people know the words to the National Anthem.

Your words bring to mind a heartwarming 'Norman Rockwell' picture of America at her best. This is a very good thing.

Thank you for the clarification. I just love the names of those rivers! So much of what I have learned about this area of the country has caused me to want to visit real soon, so I can see for myself. Although, from what I hear, if I were to visit, it is likely that I would never leave. :-)

Call us backwards but we still have kids who proclaim in high school or college that they plan to join the military when they graduate. These are not poor kids they are middle class. I raised two conservative children in the public school system (public schools have money woes right now but that is a cycle). My kids now have BS degrees and the youngest starts graduate school in fall. They have made me proud everyday of their lives. I have nieces and nephews who went to PS in other states and it took a lot of effort to decommie them when got out.
