I have nothing against hunting and meat eating. But Chinese treatment of those bears to get their bile ranks high in barbaric acts towards animals. Truely disgusting and I never heard about it though I know a bit about Chinese herbal medicine and have used it. I have some concoction slow brewing right now in my cabinet. It's a combo of herbs your pour whiskey or vodka over and let steep for a few months.

Chinese love to take weird stuff for longevity and virility and bear bile is one of them. It's a bitter tonic I suppose and who knows if it really works

you are so right

when I saw the treatment of the bears, I wanted to take my gun and go over there and just shoot these cruel people. I understand that this is the work of businessmen who sell/supply the bears's biles, and I think the average Chinese are unaware of the methods used

I read that the Chinese people are Buddhists and Buddhism forbids the taking of any forms of life, and that's why the Chinese and Japanese peoples have a special class of people who are slaughterers/butchers and these are the lowest class in their societies, ie the untouchables

Anyway, there are 1.3 billion Chinese and the civet cats and bears are rare and endangered species, and we can assume that the average Chinese people are not involved in this cruel practices. In any case they cannot affoed the bear-bile or civet meat. Only a few perverts are indulging in these decadent practices

I just read in the news-papers that because of SARS the Chinese Govt is banning all forms of hunting

NB; the average Chinese can only afford vegetable, tofu, and ocassionally poulty or pork,

Many of my Chinese are very gentle towards animals and even insects, and I soon found out why

Because CHinese are Buddhists and they believe in reincarnation. One can reincarnate into a bear, a civet cat or a fly after one's death. Therefore the average Chinese person generally do not mistreat any forms of lives for fear that it may be their dearly-departed dad, mom, or best friend

Also I read that majority of Chinese do not eat beef because of their eternal gratitute to the water-buffalo was pulling the farm-plough for them all these centuries

Many are Confucianists and Taoists in name at least. My suspicion is that after X number years of communism most are really godless atheists.

There are bitter herbal replacements in TCM for bear bile, but in China man prefer the real thing. The end result is horrible,

My girlfriend has been practicing Kung Fu for a few years and is interested in TCM as an adjunct to western medicine, not as a replacement. Some of it is a load of hooey, but some of the herbal remedies are fantastic. She has this tincture (sounds like what you are making is a tincutur) called Dit Ta Jow or something that her first teacher (who is in China now at his teachers temple, preparing for his test to be a "master") brought back for her as a gift that is incredible at helping to heal muscle pain or injury.

On the other hand, I'll never let anyone stick acupuncture needles into me, that's total quackery.

Funny how the environuts make out 3rd world people to be more "connected with nature" than us first worlders - yet we are the ones with excellent conservation programs, and poaching of endangered species isn't the problem in the US that they have in many 3rd world countries, and we have laws against cruelty to animals here while in 3rd world countries they treat animals horribly. Stupid! since they taste better when they haven't been abused.

Taoists also believe in reincarnation

Chinese uses the principles of Confuciusm for Government, day to day code of conduct, rules of engagement, personal relationship in every day life and while, Taoism, Buddhism for spiritual needs

And NO, the Chinese Govt, could NOT eradicate religions in China----Christianity is the FASTEST growing religion in China today, (so, I read) and the Chicoms Govt can't do a thinf about it

My Chinese tried to bring me to see a exotic meat restaurant in China, but he couldn't find the place, because it is against the law to eat dogs, cats ,endangered species in China, and these places h are not advertized

He explained these "special restaurants" are only known to a few and not the general public

Even if you go to one, you must know the "secret code-word" for these types of dishes, in order to order your special dishes. This is how the restaurant owners protect themselves from the law. And it is expensive

Just try to kill a panda in China and see what happens---the Govt will have you shot in public with one bullet from a pistol to the back of your neck, and then bill your family for the cost of this one bullet......

Yeah my stuff is tincture for internal use. Dit Dat Chow is for external use. It helped her with  a sprain or something? She can always buy the herbs herself and pour cheap vodka over them and let it steep for months.... the longer the better. Alcohol actually extracts stuff from the herbs that water cannot. Cheap vodka is OK since it's for external use. Maybe even rubbing alcohol is OK

On the other hand, I'll never let anyone stick acupuncture needles into me, that's total quackery.

Funny how the environuts make out 3rd world people to be more "connected with nature" than us first worlders -

Being that they live in nature more, they have a lot more time to scheme and plan cruelties to animals. And ruin the environment in other creative ways. They are no better than us. You give em bulldozers and dynamite and they'll start impacting  a lot more than they do. Lack of technology is the only factor that limits them

yet we are the ones with excellent conservation programs,

Just check out how "closer to nature" peasant types poison the landscape with arsenic in gold mining operations

and poaching of endangered species isn't the problem in the US that they have in many 3rd world countries, and we have laws against cruelty to animals here while in 3rd world countries they treat animals horribly. Stupid! since they taste better when they haven't been abused.

I had watched a "National Geographic Channel" TV docu on the Amazon Indians and these people believe in the spirit of the Forest and they regard the Animals as their brethern. They did not and do not damage the environment

I think if you peg their currency to the dollar it is #4, but if you value it by purchasing power parity(what you can buy in terms of goods and services) it is easily #2.

As for eating dogs(I haven't tried cats), the meat is so tender and delicious. It is even leaner than buffalo, and definitely more succulent.

don't you know the difference between a conscious, sentient being like a cat, and an unconscious being like a blade of grass? And morality is very far from being relative. What are you saying, because in China torture is practiced therefore in China torture is relatively moral?

One point at a time here. A cat is NOT sentient. It is NOT conscious in that it is aware of it's own existence. Unless you find a way to get a cat to speak to all of us and say that "yes, I am a conscious and sentient being!", then by all definitions, these animals are just animals. I never had cat, but I heard it is pretty good when cooked with eel or snake.

And the superiority of Western civilization does not lie primarily in technology or economics, these are secondary side effects. The primary superiority is in the idea that we are all precious in the sight of the Creator, and cruelty, even to an animal, is simply horrible and unacceptable.

Yeah right keep in mind it was the west that conquored, pillaged and slaughtered its way to world dominance. All under the auspices of the creator I assume? The power of the west lies in its technology, good governance, and powerful military, and not in how it treats its animals.

Because the Chinese have no such idea, they will never be a great civilization, no matter how far their economy or military goes - all of which I might add, is simply by COPYING the Western world! The Chinese contribute NOTHING original, only copy and steal while screaming how great they are.

How can they not copy, there technology even after all this work must still be 15 years behind that of the U.S, the cheapest way to gain knowledge for them would be to copy it. What would you have them do, reinvent the wheel?

Yeah whatever, I've had enough of your Chinese commie crap...face it, it's an inferior civilization and always has been. The argument is over; you're wrong, I (and the rest of the sane world) are right.

Quit harassing me with your barbaric opinions, don't you have an animal to go and torture somewhere?

To much generalization in your logic

You say. just because a few Chinese evil perverts are cruel to bears, ALL Chinese are cruel

then, to use your reasoning further, just because a few Catholic priests sexually abuse chidren, ALL catholics are child-molesters/rapists

And just because a few Canadians club baby seals to death, all the Canadians are cruel

and just because the world sees a few American produced child-porn videos, ALL Americans are pedaephiles

etc etc

My point; I hope for more objectivity and less prejudice
