As has happened before, the Taiwanese contestent for the Miss Universe pageant is not being allowed to be called Miss Taiwan.

At the demand of the Chinese communists she had her name changed to Miss Chinese Taipei.

Typical Chinese communist bullying.

Why do we and anyone else put up with it?

Beauty queen renamed

NEW NAME: Chen Szu-yu participated in the Miss Universe contest as Miss Taiwan, but interference from China means she now has a new official title

CNA
Friday, May 23, 2003,Page 4

Miss Taiwan, Chen Szu-yu, attends a cocktail party during the run-up to the Miss Universe contest in Panama City. Because of machinations by Beijing, Chen now has to appear in the contest as Miss Chinese Taipei.

China has obstructed the participation of Taiwan's representative in the Miss Universe contest.

Chen Szu-yu (’ÂŽv‰H), who registered with the Miss Universe contest authorities as "Miss Taiwan," was ordered to wear a name sash reading "Miss Chinese Taipei" on May 17 after Chinese authorities intervened.

Chen, 25, who is currently a student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, arrived in Panama City on May 5 under the escort of Shih Huei (Ž{Œd), a chief supervisor with the Miss Taiwan Pageant Association.

Chen was Miss Chinese Melbourne in 2001.

Over the past two weeks, Chen, standing 170cm tall and weighing 50kg, was in the spotlight wherever she went, surpassing in popularity the Taiwan Friendship Fleet, which had made several port calls in Panama City before May 20.

As "Miss Taiwan Chen Szu-yu" had become a household name in Panama City, people there, including the media, were baffled and obviously had no idea what was going on when she appeared in the first formal stage activity last Saturday wearing a "Chinese Taipei" sash instead of "Miss Taiwan" one.

Chen argued tearfully with the pageant authorities for her "Miss Taiwan" sash, but failed. Having no choice, she appeared with the name that was changed without her consent and as a result of China's meddling.

The pageant authorities told Chen that she can wear her "Miss Taiwan" strip when she is not on stage. This makes her the only contestant at the Miss Universe pageant to have "dual nationality."

Shih said her company is planning to file a lawsuit against the Miss Universe pageant authorities for reneging on their contract that the two sides had signed, in which it was agreed that Chen was to take part in the pageant in her capacity as Miss Taiwan.

Meanwhile, Wang Weihua (‰¤‰q‰Ø), a Beijing official in Panama City, told the Panamanian media, "Beauty pageants are good activities, but we hate to see it when some people have their own axe to grind and exploit this opportunity to create `two Chinas' or `one China, one Taiwan.'"

Shih said it is as clear as day who is polluting the beauty pageant with political obstruction and who is "grinding an axe."

Shih said it's ironic that while the Chinese spare no efforts to obstruct Taiwan openly, they take advantage of the Taiwanese people whenever they can, including the fact that Miss China cannot even speak any English and had stuck to Chen like a shadow -- even when she was using the bathroom -- over the past several days.

I wonder what would happen if the pageant MC and judges referred to her as Miss Taiwan throughout. After all, what are the Commies gonna do to them?

An even better idea would be to make the Chinese entrant wear a sash that said "Chinese Type B".

Red China's sash should read "SARS State".

Miss Taiwan should pin her Miss Taiwan sash under the new one. When she gets on stage, pull the new sash off, and keep the Taiwan sash on. If any officials try anything, scream like hell on TV. The other ladies should get in the act and fight onstage to let her wear her sash.

Then again, that would be like TV wrestling.

Sure would spice the pageant up a bit.

There was already a physical brawl between Miss Spain and Miss Colombia who share a room. Miss Spain lit up a cigarette in thier room and Miss Colombia didn´t like it. All this was denied next day of course.

Panama City - AP
Friday, May 23, 2003

In a stunning turn of events, officals from Taiwan demaded that "Miss Universe" pagent organizers require "Miss China" use the title "Miss Source-of-SARS." The former "Miss China" had no comment for the press, other than to adjust her light green surgical mask.

This is a real strange situation. The Donald can acquiesce to what ever he wants since it’s his show. But in some other way, I find this to be a slap to the host nation, Panama, because Panama has political ties with Taiwan and not Red China. Red China has never liked this. Any ideas are welcomed.

Correction. That would be a "Chinese NODONG, Type B."

Heck, she looks better with Taiwan on her.
That way she isn't a walking billboard for the Chicoms.
I guess they don't understand marketing.

Gee whiz, I guess when a state is administratively challenged, it must bully others and give other arrogantly some administrative orders too? Makes a lot of sense.

Murderers kill the evidence, and China is a murderous state.

Well, I would have assumed that the "NODONG" part was one of the ground rules of the pageant.

China sucks. Cheap bunch of shthds richly deserving of a SARS epidemic or whatever else afflicts moronic societies which have time to bother beauty contestants while lacking the time to handle real issues. 'China sucks.
