From a bumper sticker at a local gunshow, "Yes, the Marines are a department of the Navy. The men's department." I didn't buy a copy of the bumper sticker. I figured my dad might be offended after serving 27 1/2 years in the Navy. The Commander is proud of his Lance Corporal grandson. As I am.

My son called me from Kuwait last night. Looks like he will be coming home the first week of June. All the gear is loaded up. Just waiting for his turn to hop on the aircraft home. He has learned some vital lessons serving with the Marines in Kuwait. Rescuing his wounded buddies, rushing them off to hospitals, becoming expert at starting IVs.

He returns to his fiancee, a resumption of his degree in astrophysics and a job pouring coffee at Starbucks. It's a happy Memorial Day in our house. All our service members have returned safely from their war time assignments.
