Nobody would eat half-baked bread, but that's just what the media served up when they ran stories about advertisements calling Sen. Tom Daschle to account for his voting record.

Not one ad had aired. Not one produced. Not one funded. Nor had it been decided how best to expose Daschle's liberalism. But that didn't stop the media from reporting erroneous stories based on stolen working documents for possible future advertising campaigns.

I read the letter to the editor from Michelle Artum saying John Thune is lobbying for the pharmaceutical companies. This is a complete fabrication and entirely untrue. Would Artum like to identify the pharmaceutical company Thune represents?

Now, if the writer would care to go online and check out Linda Hall Daschle, she would find that she represents large corporations as a lobbyist and it should be conflict of interest with her husband as the minority leader of the Senate. For this, Linda Daschle receives huge sums of money.

Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., has a cliche that says anything the Republicans propose will benefit the rich only. Well, the Daschles are rich and refuse to make their income tax return public. Don't forget - Daschle is rich and getting richer.

Daschle hasn't been reading the letters to the editor of the South Dakota papers lately. From their content, South Dakotans are paying attention and the some of locals who helped in the last election are making appearances in court right now....

...but what do I know....I'm living in South Dakota, so I'm not paying attention to all of that....

Why does it take the opinion page to stake out this mans record? This paper needs this on the front page. It's not opinion, it's fact.

Why on the editorial page? Because the press is, for the most part, lazy. The flap over Bush landing on the Lincoln could have been put to bed early had anyone spent the ten minutes it took me to access the Naval Historical Center's site. They have recorded nearly every Presidential visit to any Naval vessel since John Tyler in 1841. Turns out the first Presidential visit to a carrier was Eisenhower on the USS Saratoga in '57, and every President since has made at least one such photo op visit. The reigning champ is Clinton, with five visits, including a photo of Clinton in Navy garb at the wheel of the George Washington as it crossed the English Channel for the fiftieth anniversary of the Normandy landings. Late in his term, LBJ ordered the Constellation to leave dockside in San Diego and proceed a few miles offshore for a better photo of the chopper landing. Care to guess what that stunt cost?

Slam the Dems back with such facts and their whining is revealed for what it is, but as far as I saw not even the "right wing controlled" FOX network dug this fact sheet up and presented it. Surely if an overworked barkeep on a slow computer can find this, one of our six figure a year "newshounds" with a research staff could find it.

Let's not forget that BUSH is running on the same ballot as (Barf) Daschle in 2004. If the Republicans actually find a candidate who's not incredibly weak (I've heard there are several from which to choose), Daschle will have to hope for a historic Democratic sweep of monumental proportions (not gonna happen) OR convince a large proportion of Bush voters to vote for him. Considering that Daschle seems to be everything that Bush is NOT and vice-versa, he's got a problem. Dump Daschle 2004 will be a reality, ten to one.

Uh, I hate to trouble the writer with unpleasantries, but the new Campaign Finance Law mandates precisely that.

Sure, if you want to talk at the local bar or coffee shop, that's still OK. But, if you want to take out an ad in the paper or on the radio or TV too close to an election to expose the shameful record of your local crook politician, you've just earned yourself a ticket to jail!

I suggest that EVERYONE break this law and force the judicial system into a huge back log of trials

And don't forget Little Tommy was forced to drop out of the prez race. Guess he had to
field "a lot of questions" about his actions vis a vis Lobbyist Linda and the airline industry.

The big problem was mentioned in the article. Last time he and Johnson ran on a platform plank that basically said, 'We've got position and power that South Dakota hasn't had before, so elect us and we'll keep that power." The voters found that attractive and it has been the primary reason for Daschle's re-elections since he gained power in the Senate. He lost the leadership last time, so...

All of the election races for the Senate and the House were none-the-less very, very close. Thune lost to Johnson by less than 500 votes...and many of those votes can be accounted for by the number of forgeries at the ballots. Daschle's race wasn't quite as close, but he had to work for it. If Janklow had run against him, he may have won. Janklow isn't always popular, but you always know where he stands and he'll work for the people of the state as hard as he worked for his personal estate. 'Though not a multi-millionaire as many other politicos are, he's worked for everything he has and the people of South Dakota appreciate that more than you may think. Thune will be looked on with some favor for not having spent the states funds in an expensive re-count or second election. He will have a better chance of election this go around if he runs, is the general consensus.

As far as churches go, I missed your meaning. I'm a little thick, sometimes.
