As the article notes, Snowe will likely be a major participant in the Medicare reform negotiations-- because of the same reason she was involved in the tax cut debate (her Senate Finance spot). I think including her will keep her in the fold. She's certainly a lot better than the alternatives-- Pingree, Baldacci, etc.

I think that if a Republican conservative throws a scare into Arlen Specter, or mirabile dictu, even beats that pathetic blowhard in next year's primary, it just might have a healthy impact on Snow's "convictions".

I love the Club For Growth and think they do great work. In this case, however, the ads were stupid. This is proven by how ineffective they were. They didn't generate pressure on her; they created a backlash. They didn't get her to change her mind; they made her more entrenched.

At best they were a waste of money. At worst they caused some harm.

Also worth noting is the fact that the voters are who need convincing as to the benefits of tax cuts. She will go as the opinion of the public goes. Convince them they will prosper with tax cuts and she see the light.
