May 26, 2003 -- Federal agents have nabbed an Ohio truck driver after unmasking him as an al Qaeda operative in plots to collapse a suspension bridge and blow up an airliner in the United States, according to a new report.

This is the first I read about driving a truck under passenger planes and blowing them up.

This could all be insignificant prisoner fingering of other rats with little substance. And it could be used to keep hyping the homeland security thing to keep the money rolling. This informant could be giving up useless operatives for petty privileges or as a plea-bargaining strategy. I never doubted that they were out there. Im not one of those people on the radio yesterday complaining about the terror alerts. I believe they are real and the fact that we havent had another attack is likely due to some good policework, some luck and locking up a lot of suspicious people.

Where we disagree is I doubt that more than one percent of the Muslims in this country could help us in our investigation if their life depended on it and you believe that 99% could but wont.

BTW, was that Ohio trucker the suspicious truck activity that you reported to the cops? If yes, major congrats. If no, you may have been on to something but just something they couldnt prove at the time. Maybe they have your guy under suspicion. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. Sounds like the Summer will be a nervous time.

Loosening bolts- reminds me of the tail that came off of the aircraft that crashed into a New York City burrough, in November of 2001. I don't believe the cause of the crash has been determined...

RE-read the article. He wasn't going to blow up any bridge. He was supposed to loosen bolts on a suspension bridge to cause it to collapse. Then her was supposed to drive a truck under an airliner and blow it and the airliner up.

Is it just me or do these sound like goofy things to do if you have anti-aircraft missiles, etc? I mean, the liklihood of being able to carry off such an attack is pretty slim.

In case you guys haven't figured it out yet, just because it isn't being abused now des NOT mean it won't be abused later on. Remember that income taxes were never supposed to exceed 10%, and were 1% for all but the wealthiest Americans. It took less than 20 years to become an uncontrollable freight train. Now, when Hillary takes her throne by any and all means necesary, do you really want her to "look for terrorists" at will "for the good of the country", Constitutional right be damned?

Besides, RD's original post shouldn't contain the sarcasm tag for TWO reasons: 1) we should never delight in the abuse of Constitutional rights, and 2) if they were violated, then he will walk. (A conservative judge will be very picky about preserving our rights, and a liberal judge will be very eager to let this fish go.)

But you go ahead and celebrate the Patriot Act. It probably will never be used to hurt your fmaily during your lifetime.
