It's not what we thought we were gonna be doing, a lot of the people's civil rights have been compromised, and we don't know what's going on. If I keep speaking my mind, will I be deported?

In the next couple of months, they'll probably make it unpatriotic to be Democrat
It already was Neil. Nobody has to legislate that.

Neil Young was on MTV with Roger Clinton (yes--that Roger) about 6 months after Bill the Bender was elected. Neil was really furious, and slammed Roger on camera:
YOUNG: "We voted for change! We didn't get change Roger!" I loved Neil's music growing up....but I grew up. Pity he didn't.

The Dixie Chicks. Willie Nelson. Neil Young. Bruce Springsteen. Carrot Top. Jeanne Garofalo. Sean Penn. Susan Sarandon. Tim Robbins. Anthony Robbins. Samuel L. Jackson. Ethan Hawke. Don Rickles. Kim Basinger.....
ENEMIES!!

I stand corrected.
Being a Rat isn't necessarily unpatriotic: it's just that 99% of them are (in addition to being selfish and stupid).

"But he's so out of touch that his advisers haven't told him that their record sales spiked upwards when that happened, and while the airplay went down the sales went up and their concerts all sold out."
Apparently Neils advisors havent told him that the Dixie Chicks sales dropped considerably following the comments, and the concerts were sold out long before the comments were made.
If youre going to call other people ignorant, always be sure you have at least a passing knowledge of the facts.

I'm not much in favor of the deportation thing - could we just go straight into the executions? Lord knows every time an artiste is criticized they're treating it as if they were shot, so it wouldn't actually be much different...
To: eBelasco
I am SOOO_OOOO_OOOO tired of people whining about being threatened for speaking out, and talk about how Bush has made it dangerous for those who disagree with him. Bush has taken away their free speech. HELLO? Bush didn't do it. Don't these people get it? It's the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, Stupid!

As a foreigner, Neil probably doesn't have many rights here, so we probably could get that done without much fuss. At least a stay at Gitmo should be in order. It's not like Cretin's gov't would really offer much opposition.

I liked Neil Young's stuff in hs & college.
Later I hated his music.
Now I ignore it.
the words are not bad but the voice is a mouse. I'm reminded of flannery oconner's novella "A good man is hard to find." the crazy kid says to the incessantly talking old woman, " you'd be all right if you were just shot between the eyes every day of your life."

Correct me if I'm wrong, bit didn't Neil put out a extremely patriotic song in memorial of the victims of 9-11 within 3 days. You people seem to think anyone who questions the current administration is unpatriotic. Ashcroft scares the hell out me too.
Goebbels would be proud.

Your line of thinking scares me. I suppose you think Benedict Arnold should be considered an American hero because of what he did at the Battle of Saratoga? Maybe we should overlook his later traitorous treachery? I think not. As for Ashcroft, extremism in defence of liberty is no vice, my friend. Same today as it ever was.
To: Cincinatus
Hey wait a minute!, I heard Neil Young loves Ronald Reagan, AND he did write and record "Let's Roll" last year.

Neil Young is now proven to be a self-serving, insincere BS artist who needs publicity either way to perpetuate his no-where career.

re: Ashcroft -- The fact that we still enjoy liberty, despite all the recent tumult, proves the point beyond a reasonable doubt.
re: your line of thinking -- because it presupposes that one gets a mulligan for being a traitor, if they did something that was noble previously

REVOLUTION BLUES
Well, we live in a trailer at the edge of town
You never see us 'cause we don't come around.
We got twenty five rifles just to keep the population down.
But we need you now, and that's why I'm hangin' 'round.
So you be good to me and I'll be good to you,
And in this land of conditions I'm not above suspicion
I won't attack you, but I won't back you.
Well, it's so good to be here, asleep on your lawn.
Remember your guard dog? Well, I'm afraid that he's gone.
It was such a drag to hear him whining all night long.
Yes, that was me with the doves, setting them free near the factory
Where you built your computer, love.
I hope you get the connection, 'cause I can't take the rejection
I won't deceive you, I just don't believe you.
Well, I'm a barrel of laughs, with my carbine on
I keep 'em hoppin', till my ammunition's gone.
But I'm still not happy, I feel like there's something wrong.
I got the revolution blues, I see bloody fountains,
And ten million dune buggies comin' down the mountains.
Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars,
But I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars.
To: Cincinatus
Well, he can't sing, I agree, but neither can Bob Dylan!
I wish I could find that Reagan quote, but anyway, I'll conceed Young's probably just an oppitunist(sp)......but compared to David Crosby & Graham Nash he's right wing!!

After a string of less-than-awesome albums..... Hence the true source of Neil's bitterness. His last decent studio album was Ragged Glory (1990), and his last great studio album was Rust Never Sleeps, (1978). I've always been a huge fan of Neil's music (in the early-mid part of his career), and I was heartened to hear that he was a Reaganite in the mid-80's, but ......
"once you're gone, you can never come back.
when you're out of the blue, and into the black."
