The only fig leaf left to disguise the hard ultimatum in Powell's presentation to Assad was his failure to use the words "or else."
Well I guess he could have used the words....... "shock and awe".. Maybe that would have gotten his attention.....

Secretary of State Colin Powell, flanked by State Department Arabists, Why would you take "arabists" to deliver a serious message? Middle East specialists, would seem more appropriate. Powell doesn't need cheerleaders for the guys on the other side of the table.
Somehow I doubt their are many Israel-ists or Jew-ists. in the State Department.

That will shutup the damn LEFTISTS! As long as "W" is in the White House, nothing sort of DC and NYC getting nuked, gassed or germed on a large scale will shut them up.

What you quoted in your post #5 was important and most directly related to the Iraq WMD and people (as well as Lebonan).
But I think the description of arms facilities throughout syria are the more dangerous aspect. They don't have the Golan Heights to attack Israel any more. Now they don't need it. There military missle capability (the C-Scuds for example) and the multiple warheads (for dispersing chemical and bio agents) need to be ummmm....... destroyed. Otherwise we can forget the roadmap.... Israel will be gone in a couple years.

Do you think President Bush is creating a very different type of government from domestic to foregn offices. Tell the truth or get out. Cut costs and waste or get out. I like what he is all about.

" We know where you are hiding the weapons, the scientists and the terrorist bases. Give them up, or we will go get them ourselves." Talk to Powell or talk with Rumsfeld. Your choice.

This is definitely good news. This was not the cave that was feared by some. That said, there are still serious problems at State that MUST be addressed. The treatment of Carlos Castano is Exhibit A in that prosecution.

Even more chilling for Assad: Powell informed him, and repeated this demand in public in Beirut, that the United States expected Syria to end its 27-year military occupation of Lebanon, where it continues to control all prime ministers and puppet presidents in utter defiance of the popular will With the clear implication that we WILL go get them out if necessary, including rolling up Hamas and Hezbollah in the process. Chilling indeed.
Probably showed him a map of the Bekaa valley with crosshairs drawn around it.

That said, there are still serious problems at State that MUST be addressed. I think the weed killer has been applied amd will slowly but surely eliminate the worthless "plants" left from the previous gardener.
