Old E.J. is an ultra LIBERAL hack, who only managed to make himself worthwhile/useful, when he went after Clinton and his scandals. Otherwise, he is a propagandist ( read
LIAR )of the old Pravda school. This article doesn't even reach the level of a " Potemkin Village "!
"Comity" ? "Partisanship" ? In Congresses from the times of FDR through Clinton ? Not in this particular demension and universe !
The Dems and E.J. are just so flumoxed by being out of power, that they have imploded and been reducede to whinging, whining, non sequitors, victimhood, and insane ravings. I, for one, am thoroughly enjoying the show. :-)

"A narrow Republican majority will work its partisan will, no matter what." Just as the Democrats have for the last 40 years.

Bush is so determined to push through a domestic program based almost entirely on tax cuts for the wealthy... He means tax cuts for the tax payers.

Each side sees itself as gentlemanly and the other side as savage. We perceive Democrats as playing by their own rules when they see fit, shunning the traditions of the Senate, by fillibustering circuit court nominees- the first time in history that has been done. I've talked to Democrats who think Republicans are like them but only bare-knuckles. It's interesting how in preparing for war, you always dehumanize the opposition, as having the morals of animals.

And because Democrats have such a diverse congressional party, the price they pay for unity is the blunting of differences. That means the party is often forced able to deliver fuzzy [a single clear] messages.
To: conservatism_IS_compassion
It is just amazing.
Democrats as a diverse party: Ie it consists of Teacher unions and trial lawyers, and social workers.
The democrats put out the sentence of the day, and have for 10 years at least, and automatically the good collectivists parrot it. If you follow orders that is considered manners. If you call the Republicans "Meanies who want to cut social security and school lunches" that is comity. Of course taking money from people or corporations (always the wealthy) is always considered virtuous.

Wonder why? Because its E.J. Dionne, Democrat National Committee disinformant and agent provactuer.
To: LdSentinal
I never read Dionne, for reasons that I hope are obvious. But I couldn't resist the blurb to this piece of garbage.
What a load of you know what. Dionne is one great reason to avoid the WP's op ed pages. The WP house editorials have been making some progress, but their op eds weigh them down - especially now, without the much-missed Michael Kelly.

Here's my favorite line: "This [Bush's tax cut] is a shock to congressional Democrats, most of whom came to political maturity under the old arrangements that placed a heavy emphasis on comity and the search for the political center."
Nothing anybody can say can out-parody this ludicrous statement.
To: LdSentinal
This piece by E.J. Dionne is hilarious. He should write for The Oniion.

To: LdSentinal
That means the party is often forced to deliver fuzzy messages. Now it's Bush's fault that the Rats don't know what they're doing, don't know what their core principles are, don't know who the American people are and what matters to them. /sarcasm
But, hey, E.J.: You finally admitted that the Rats have a "fuzzy message"!!
Now you just need to admit that they also have fuzzy math.
To: LdSentinal
One influential Senate Democrat insisted that his party's problem is not the deficiency of its "message " but its lack of a "delivery system." Democrats, he says, are now playing catch-up to Republicans who have created a powerful "echo chamber" for their themes through talk radio, cable television, research institutes and lobbying networks. There is, of course, a phrase that describes what the GOP has done. It's called party-building.Echo chamber? Uh, no. It's called resonance.
Resonance with the values and concerns of the American people.
We're at war, we've got a tremendous war-time leader in the White House. That's why Bush's message, not the Rats', is resonating with voters and the Republican Party.
To: LdSentinal
"Bipartisanship is another name for date rape," White House ally Norquist was quoted They way bipartisanship has been executed by the Rats, yes.
