Here here! Bush is a welcome change from Clinton (actually- anyone would be a welcome change from Clinton.) But I sometimes think that Republicans show the same sort of blind "leader worship" that Democrats displayed so disgustingly all throughout Clinton's presidency.

His opening had to include a barb against Sharon, didn't it? Pat is the proverbial dog returning to it's vomit, but by now, even a hardcore supporter such as yourself ought to recognize the pathology he exhibits. He's a kook.

Never been a supporter of Pat. I disagree with him on economic issues big time and I thought his run for the Presidency was a disgrace. However- I think his analysis on foreign affairs is mostly right.

I read the article.

Bush wasn't lied to, if that's what Pat is saying...which then implies that Tenet, Wolfowitz, Condi, Cheney, innumerable others are lying...including the historical record itself, which sez Saddam had x, hasn't proved he no longer has x, therefore he still has x...x = WMD (anthrax, etc etc etc)

WMD in Iraq did not not exist.

People are getting all bent outta shape on "What if no WMD are found?"

Well, what if apples were oranges?

What if Moses washed his feet in tomato soup?

There ain't no what if.

And, now, he joins Kucinic and the other Dem-witted fools to call for an investigation to get to the truth...bah.

Buchanan's article begins with a sarcastic note ("To make the Middle East safe for Sharon?") and ends with one re: Wolfowitz.

I've had my belly full of crybabies, looking to smear Dubya and his Administration...Buchanan is officially on my shit list.

Pat should just STFU

The usual advice for those who bring up unconfortable facts.

(And I can't stand Pat)

There are some things I agree with Pat about, But in most cases I think the guy is just a sour old man who is still soar over his departure from the republican party. It's rare occasion for him to say anything positive about this country or it's history. just plain don't like the guy and it has made it hard for me to take him seriously. There are several things I would like George W. Bush to do differently, and I do think it's healthy to question our leaders, it's just the way Pat does it that bothers me.

I can't seem to find a post addressing the issues raised, just attacks on the author.

There were multiple reasons given for attacking Iraq. One of the criticisms leveled at the Administration in the months before the war was that one day it wa WMD, the next it was support for terrorists, the next it was for the human rights of the Iraqi people. As if having more than one reason to do something is bad.

There is no question Sadaam had WMD. He used them against Iran and his own people. He had tons of them left when the UN inspectors left in 1998. The only way he would not have them in 2003 is if he subsequently destroyed them. If so, he should have shown the world he was doing it as required by 17 UN resolutions.

The historical record shows that Iraq had, for instance, a huge quantity of anthrax, botulinum, etc.

The UN demanded that Saddam destroy his inventory, and document such destruction.

The record shows he did neither.

Ergo: Saddam retained possession of WMD, hiding them within his own borders, or shipping them outside the country.

Sorry you misread me...I meant to attack not just the author, but his argument and reasoning.

As if having more than one reason to do something is bad.

The truth is, most people will only sign on their support for one reason.

For me the acid test is war to defend my rights. So WMD which the administration claimed were to be used to violate my rights were the only reason I cared about enough to support the war. If they don't exist I begin to question our intelligence. Or alternately the credibility of our leadership.

I am patient. I will wait as long as it takes. Someday the truth will be evident. I will support or excoriate the leadership at that time.

Sorry you misread me...

The correct comment is,
"Sorry I didn't express myself on the issue the first time".

BTW, I don't give a flip what the UN demands. They are far more dangerous to my liberty and rights than Saddam ever was.

Pat Buchana: An unnecessary columnist, too arrogant to stay a Republican, too determined to hurt Bush to shut up, too bizarre to matter.

Your patience is an island of reason in a sea of fury. "God grant me patience and I want it now."

I, too, hope that a comprehensive report of the WMDs and the programs to produce them is presented to us and the U.N. There were so many false positives during the fighting that the Administration better make damn sure what they publish is bulletproof. None of those false claims came from the Pentagon or the Administration. In fact, they were playing wet blanket on a lot of them.

I still wonder what the story is on the chemical plant found in the desert, under camouflage nets, run by generals. Also, why were all those chemical suits distributed. The coalition force didn't have any chem/bio weapons in theater. What were they for? Could Sadaam's generals have been lying to him? "Yes, yes, we will attack with nerve gas" knowing full well they weren't going to. Sounds like Hitler asking: "Is Paris burning?" General Von Cholditz (sp?) assured him it was. He realized Paris had been around for a thousand years and Hitler for fewer than 10.

Sorry I didn't express myself on the issue the first time.

My fault.

Re: the UN, yeah, I don't give much of a flip about 'em, either.

So long as someone had a reason to go to war.

On the other hand, others might like to at least know that they were not lied to by their leaders:

That is the way I feel as most Americans have NO voice in matters. It's either chocolate or vanilla. 80% want our borders secured. What chance do we have in this "Two-Party Cartel". Sit down shut up go along with either the transnationals or the transvestites. Nice choice.

Watching how what used to be a perfectly good bunch of generally honest and thoughful people is slowly turning into the mirror image of the '90's Clintonistas makes me wonder whether there is any hope left for this nation or even for what some call 'the Judeo-Christian civilization". Given how easy it is to turn the masses into whatever the propagandist wants them to turn... I hope that the end won't last too long. It's getting boring already.

I don't care. This 0.0000000whatever% wants our forces well beyond our borders, administering lead injections to the appropriate foreheads.
