Gratuitous Anti-American Slur in "Finding Nemo"

Posted on 06/07/2003 12:46:45 PM PDT by Maceman

I just got back from taking my four-year-old to see "Finding Nemo." For those who don't know about it, it's the new Disney animated movie about a tropical clown fish whose son gets caught by a diver and is taken away. The plot is based on the daddy fish's search for his son.

Anyway, at one point the daddy fish is talking to some sharks, and tells how is son got taken by the diver. One of the sharks says something like: "Those humans think they own everything." Then another says: "ESPECIALLY THOSE AMERICANS."

To add injsult to injury, the diver who captured the little fish actually turns out to be an Australian dentist!

I dunno. I just find these gratuitous slurs and liberal swipes to be outrageous and objectionable. That line about Americans was totally unnecessary, and did absolutely nothing to advance the dialog or the plot.

That it found its way into the final version of the movie is just further proof of where Hollywood's black heart really is. That it was placed in a G-rated movie bound to be seen by every young kid in America at some point makes it especially intolerable.

God, the Hollywood left frosts me. Sorry. I just had to vent.

That's just a joke, don't sweat it. A recent script I am working on (a modern day hope & crosby movie) has a scene where our protangonists ride their camel past a terrorist camp, singing a song and acting pretty much like idiots.

Anyway, Osama and 2 cronies see them singing the film's closing tune, and Osama remarks, with subtitles to help us understand, "Americans!" exhales a disgusted Osama. His #1 crony resonds with "But they make great entertainers, though!" The third terrorist in the frame is reclining, reading The Daily Racing Form.

Is it anti american? Nah, not at all. Is it funny - well, you will have to decide, but everyone I have showed it to gets a laff from that one.

sharks as anti -American..did they have French accents?

Of course in real life the little son of a fish
would have been eaten by his own father

The sharks had Australian accents. But there was a little crab-loke character that ate the slime off things. He had a French accent.

The sharks are wrong. We don't own everything, we just pay to clean up the messes that belong to others.

Expect about anything from the "Disney Fags".
Usually it is of a sexual nature.

I heard it, but dismissed it. The movie was incredible. Perhaps the best from Pixar studios thus far. My kids (8 and 11) LOVED it, as did I. Without Pixar, Disney would be up a creek

Oh come on, Mace! I saw it last weekend, and i thought the send up the three sharks did of an AA meeting was hilarious and very anti-PC.

I heard the "American" comment too, but thought it was far outweighed by the whole sharks's act.

Then another says: "ESPECIALLY THOSE AMERICANS."

Now this would ruin the movie for me,I can see that comment coming from a snail(escargot),but a fish?

Totally unbelievable.;)

Expect about anything from the "Disney Fags".

Remember the infamous remark by the young girl in ET? Give up?

"Penis Breath" It will never end unless we get the right to edit this nonsense out, to protect our children. If I buy a book, can I mark out words, or tear out pages without the copyright lawyers filng suit? Yes I can,it is my book, so why can't I do the same with DVDs?

I agree I got my haunches up over that one, but you know what--it came from despicable, blood thirsty sharks(who, when they weren't blood thirsty, were stupid and neurotic--in fact if I remember it came from one of the sharks that appeared to be a complete idiot). So perhaps the real comment is American haters are desicable, neurotic idiots;-)
Overall, we enjoyed the movie. So much action and pretty clean when all was said and done.

I agree that it was creative, brilliant and incredible. I only wish my four-year-old had let us stay to see the whole thing (she got a little scared at one point and insisted on leaving).

My only point is that this kind of thing is not uncommon in Hollywood movies, and I don't think it should go unnoticed.

I didn't say it wasn't a good movie. But why do they have to kuck it up with this kind of political nonsense. I'll bet if one of the characters said: "Those Americans are great and can do ANYTHING!" then the NYT would be writing Howelling editorials of protest.

I agree...read what I wrote to Maceman. The comment came from a character(one of the sharks) with a lot of flaws. You could just as easily say that they were attempting to paint anti-Americans as reactionary fools based on who the comment came from.
