Gratuitous Anti-American Slur in "Finding Nemo"

Posted on 06/07/2003 12:46:45 PM PDT by Maceman

I just got back from taking my four-year-old to see "Finding Nemo." For those who don't know about it, it's the new Disney animated movie about a tropical clown fish whose son gets caught by a diver and is taken away. The plot is based on the daddy fish's search for his son.

Anyway, at one point the daddy fish is talking to some sharks, and tells how is son got taken by the diver. One of the sharks says something like: "Those humans think they own everything." Then another says: "ESPECIALLY THOSE AMERICANS."

To add injsult to injury, the diver who captured the little fish actually turns out to be an Australian dentist!

I dunno. I just find these gratuitous slurs and liberal swipes to be outrageous and objectionable. That line about Americans was totally unnecessary, and did absolutely nothing to advance the dialog or the plot.

That it found its way into the final version of the movie is just further proof of where Hollywood's black heart really is. That it was placed in a G-rated movie bound to be seen by every young kid in America at some point makes it especially intolerable.

God, the Hollywood left frosts me. Sorry. I just had to vent.

What does Christian have to do with it? There was nothing in this movie offensive to Christians or their children. Probably the cleanest movie for slide in adult humor Disney and their subsidiaries have put out in a long time.

I agree--it was incredible! I don't like animation all that much, but I really enjoyed this film!

Come on--it came from a neurotic, blood thirsty shark--how is that for personifying the anti-American left?

I'm with you. Good movie overall.

The movie clearly showed that:

a) The French are shrimps
b) America-haters are neurotic idiots
c) Lesbian fish can't swim straight
d) Bad little girls are destined to be tortured at the dentist

woops, what I meant is there isn't a lot of the adult humor Disney likes to sneak in--far less, I thought, than Toy Story.

Thanks for the update, Maceman: I would not have learned about this without you.

That line about Americans was totally unnecessary, and did absolutely nothing to advance the dialog or the plot.

But this line will do marvels verywhere else in the world, where the anti-American sentiment is rampant.

I am curious, however, about the origin of the remark (the origianl script from outside Disney?). If it has originated at Disney, I would consider contacting the company for a explanation.

>"Those humans think they own everything." Then another says: "ESPECIALLY THOSE AMERICANS."

Well, never forget
that most of the world only
knows America

by our media
and by all our globalist
businessmen jetting

all around the globe.
If those were the only views
of America

you ever received,
you'd probably think badly
of the US, too.

(I can say I was
embarassed and ashamed at
the weird, bizarrely

biased and unfair
"pro" American TV
coverage "we" got

from ESPN
at the French Open grand slam.
The American

guys and women were
constantly talked up as "gods,"
when everyone knew

nearly all the men
were big losers [and they lost],
and the Williams girls

were obnoxious brats
[as Serena, in fact, was].
I swear, if I lived

anywhere but here,
and I saw media stuff
like that constantly,

then I -- anyone! --
would hate the source of the stuff.
But there's nothing we

can do about how
media or globalist
businessmen
tarnish

the image of real
America for the world
that never sees us...)

Funny thing about memories. I thought the remark was "scrotum breath" by the young male star ...

My antenna is way out for any liberal bias stuff slipped into tv shows, etc, but I find myself failing to be offended by that fairly innocuous line.

the Hollywood left frosts me. Sorry. I just had to vent.

Actually, technically speaking, it is not the Hollywood left per se (I am being picky and "tongue in cheek" here). Pixar is located in a suburb of Oakland called Emeryville (I just drove past their facilities last Sunday and took a digital photo - if I knew how to post it with this reply, I would). They are located almost right next to the east end of the Oakland Bay Bridge. At the other end of that bridge lies San Francisco. The town right next to Emeryville is Berkley. 'Nuff said!!

Having said all that, I am thinking of taking my 4 year old daughter to see this one. I am sure "the references" will go right over her head. Plus, I am reassured by the positive posts I am seeing here. She really liked Pixar's last movie, Monsters, Inc., plus this would be her first trip to a movie theater. We'll see what happens.

That's something a cheese-eating surrender-monkey would say.

Sounds like the writers were mocking the French to me.

I finally figured out that you're writing in haiku. Why? And is it tough or does it come naturally?
