One (probably the only) good thing about the French is that in their penal system, a day of good behaviour counts towards your sentence, bad behaviour doesn't. There is no "Time Off". Sounds like a winner to me.
Well, that depends on whether your goal is to reduce crime and retain citizen's rights, or to expand police powers and make people more dependent on government, at their own expense. Some people say the former is better, others indicate by their words or actions that they think the latter is better.
As my dear old dad says, "I hate like h@!! to shoot a guy and then stand there and argue with him."
I would recommend a caliber that begins with ".4". Preferably a variation on the 1911A1.
That's pretty fair advice. But I like a caliber that begins with a *4* whether it's a handgun, something a bit larger, or even *just* a break-open singleshot.
And you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but is that an M-79 grenade launcher? I never saw one up close and personal.
A mugger would have a Cow AND Kittens if confronted with that set of personal protection, donchya think? :-D

The stamped sheetmetal M3 and M3A1 greaseguns were reasonably sturdy, though they got pretty well scuffed up bouncing around inside M48A3 tanks; we carried two aboard, in theory one for the driver and one for the loader. It was unfortunately also fairly common for the ejection port cover that doubled as the weapon's safety to get knocked off, so there were usually a few spares around, too. We carried the M79 grenade launcher up top as a quick answer to any nighttime/dusk muzzleflashes or green tracers bouncing off out turret, as well as an AK with the front sight hacksawed off so the thing wouldn't hang up on a tank's hatch or on a tanker helmet's commo cord.
But yes, the M79 was very useful for us since we didn't have to worry about stray fragments from a close round being muck of a threat to us inside, though on road marches the presence of mines and the heat made riding on top outside the way to go. That was in the days before the HEDP round was commonly available, which probably would have been our choice if we'd had 'em.
My idea of confronting muggers with personal protection doesn't much extend to sportsmanship, I fear, and the surprise I prefer for them is one of wonderment as to why the ground is coming toward them so fast, and what that loud noise was.
I like shotguns for such things. A lot. That's based on some personal experience.

Let's see if the CA follows up that little line of thought.
