.....if that were how it did go down, this person would have no compunction about stretching the truth, or telling lies outright if it struck a blow at "The Man".

Such things are fair in Liberal Land; if you lie to ruin somebody, it's okay if that person or entity is a conservative, or a perceived conservative (such as a policeman).

It's all for the common good, which trumps everything. Including the truth.
