"As the remorselessly cold, unblinking optical eye of the PRAIRIE POODLE PUNISHER scanned the distant Montana horizon, its cross-hairs acquired a likely target of opportunity. Range and cross-wind were estimated and compensated for and with the precision born of countless repetition, the elegant aiming device settled down in preparation to vaporize another varmint vermin."

Ever wonder why Montanans don't suffer from Islamist snipers or prarie dog borne diseases? I believe that Jeff Goertz has the answer...

I think you're on to something.

Those prairie dogs didn't get monkeypox in the wild, as I understand it. They were at a pet distributor, housed in close contact with an infected African rat.

You understand correctly.

At last report, some of the infected prarie dogs escaped into the wild. Aside from that, prarie dog burrows tend to collapse under the weight of cattle, usually breaking legs which result in herd losses. And they transmit disease-carrying fleas.
They've also become something of a cause celebe for the animists. Lock and load...

You would be amazed at what a 220 Swift will do to one of those little critters at 200 yards. Power to the people..

Mmmmmmmm. My kind of "booming." What the author describes is sort of a combination of a "chamois shot" and a "red fizz."

Anybody send this link to PETA yet? ;0)

They've also become something of a cause celebe for the animists.I believe here in Colorado, it's against the law to own or kill a prarie dog. The reason given,IIRC, by the "animists" was that the pd is a major food source for some threatened badger or lizard or democrat or something.
I know quite a few ranchers out here, and I swear, none of them ever heard about a law stopping them from taking out PD's.....heh heh heh.

I wish I could shoot at prarie dogs with my 9mm automatic. I'm getting bored shooting at targets.

Well, according to the
Clinton News Network,
The monkeypox outbreak is believed to have begun with a shipment of more than 800 rodents, including 50 Gambian giant pouched rats, from Africa to a distributor in Texas. The rats are believed to have passed the disease to the prairie dogs, which were then sold or traded in the Midwest. Would you want to bet that none of these makes it into the wild? The CDC has issued an order banning the release of prarie dogs into the wild, but that's totally unenforceable -- any how many parents are going to risk having their kids contract monkeypox instead of turning the varmits loose?

Prairie Dogs' fleas carry Bubonic plague. The plague is endemic in the Southwestern US. While cute, the dogs are varmits.
