How Clinton Left Ticking Terror Time Bombs For Bush To Discover
From Dick Morris' new book: Off With Their Heads - Traitors, Crooks & Obstructionists In American Politics, Media, Business
The webpage link apparently is an entire chapter out of Morris' new book. If printed out, it would be over 40 pages of text. This excerpt from the book gives an inside-the-Clinton-White-House view of what was and was not done about the threat of terrorism in the 1990's Clinton Administration.
"Part of the problem in battling terror during the Clinton administration was the attorney general, Janet Reno. When President Clinton told me, in the summer of 1995, that her appointment was "his worst mistake," he was alluding to a long series of anticrime measures torpedoed by Reno, on grounds ranging from civil rights to civil liberties to budgetary constraints to pride of authorship. "
"...the White House staff sought to disempower the president. By threatening leaks and administrative noncooperation ("the paperwork would never emerge . . . unless the president typed it himself"!!!), they gleefully controlled this oft-weak chief executive."
"Something was always more important than fighting terrorism."
"But on issues of terrorism, defense, and foreign affairs, generally, he was always too wary of criticism to act decisively. He was never strong enough to take the kinds of stands necessary to override the stand-pat instincts of his bureaucracy. "
Morris discusses an ineffective Clinton Administration regarding North Korea and Iraq; how Clinton allowed Saddam Hussein to win while Clinton postured; how Clinton typical semantics allowed him to say he gave no concessions to Iraq (but, instead, gave them to France and Britain, thus circumvention the sanctions).
"The week after his [Saddam's] barring-U.S.-inspectors gambit, Saddam was back with another move. This time, he announced that he would not agree to an extension of the oil-for-food program-in effect, holding his 20 million people hostage-unless the program's restrictions were loosened. Rushing to accommodate him, U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan indicated that he would suggest raising by 50 percent the amount of oil Iraq could sell, citing reports of starvation among Iraqi children. Sad-dam now had his daily oil sales up to 1 million barrels per day, a third of his prewar total. "
In the final section from this online version, Why Clinton Slept, Morris shows Clinton as a moral relativist whose mind was complex, but cluttered, paralysed by too much analysis and not enough action.
"Bill Clinton looked a lot better in the White House than he does in the years since. We assumed that he had North Korea under control. He didn't. We let Clinton distract us from Saddam's warlike preparations. We shouldn't have. And we didn't give Osama bin Laden much thought. Big mistake."
"In hindsight, Clinton left us naked and unprepared for the perils of terrorism." Even the Republican controlled Congress of the mid-1990's did not perceive terrorism as a serious threat.
"Congress had labored for a year on its antiterror package, but all it produced was this paltry list of half measures. The very limited nature of its scope and reach reflects, eloquently, the low priority terrorism received in official Washington in the middle of 1996."

Morris gives a frightening look inside the Clinton White House in its dealing with terrorism. The webpage link is a long read, but it is worth it. I extracted some interesting paragraphs above.
I'm sure that some of what Morris says may be vengeful for how he was treated by the Clintons; however, as Morris concludes on the webpage, "In hindsight, Clinton left us naked and unprepared for the perils of terrorism."

Somehow, I just can't put much credence in anything Morris has to say. He has always struck me as a guy who will do or say anything, as long as it benefits him.
Now he's trying to get in on the book-writing campaign so he can make a couple million--and I believe that he is capable of filling the book with any sort of sensationalism to sell more copies.
Too bad--he probably does have a lot of stories to tell--but once you lose your credibility, it's awfully hard to get it back.

Clinton left a number of "ticking time bombs" for the Bush admin to deal with--but the terror tbs might be the worst. It's my tinfoil hat theory that he wanted the next administration to fail, regardless of whether it was Republican or Dem, simply so Hillary! could ride in and save the day. So he left behind not only the terrorist ttbs, but economy, education, and immigration ttbs. He also made sure his saboteurs and incompetents infiltrated most of the country's critical agencies, including but not limited to the FBI and CIA. We have not yet even begun to assess the damage this man and his evil "wife" have done.

It is absolutley amazing at how Congrees seems to be at the bottom of everything that is wrong in America while at the same time gaining more control and power for themselves.
Think: Congress especially the Democrats always throw up social security and medical care, then they skimp and cut every corner they can. While at the same time they increase their benefits three fold.
The Republicans claim they want less government and increase government almost as much as the Democrats.
It is strange how each party allows the other to have their own whipping post against the other but all in all when it comes to their perks, benefits and "Pork Barrel" spending it is never addressed. Sounds to me they are working overtime on how to screw the American people and cater to themselves and their backers.
Congress divides and conquers and all of them sleep in the same bed.

Dick wrote this....
"Even after he left office, the United States was well on its way to paying off the national debt when the double whammy of the 9/11 attacks and the usual Bush family economic slump sent us back into red ink. But once the economy regains its footing and the terrorism crisis passes, the sound fiscal course on which Clinton helped to put the nation will likely continue where it left off in 2001. "
Dick don't know crap about economics.

C'mon Dick. Tell us something we don't know.
You would be shocked at how many citizens--many who vote in every election--have no idea of "the real political world." Look at the awe and gush over Hillary and her book--and that was from professional media who, you would think, are intelligent enough to see beyond "glamour."
Sadly, alot of people don't know--and the maintstream media sure aren't going to tell them.

Granted, Morris' credibility is questionable; however, the fact that Clinton turned his back on terror and our country's security is still true. Col. Patterson's
Dereliction of Duty is forwarded by Al Santoli, "a noted foreign policy analyst" who refers to x42's tenure as the "co-presidency of William Jefferson and Hillary Rodham Clinton." He concurs with Morris:
The net sum of the Clinton years is global insecurity: conflict between the West and transnational terrorists, conventional and unconventional conflicts on four continents, and the threat of nuclear war on the Indian subcontinent and Korean peninsula, and possibly in the Middle East. The Clinton era is bracketed by the 1993 and 2001 terrorist attacts on New York's World Trade Center. The Clinton administration's reckless disregard for American's internal sercurity safeguards led to our country's vulnerability to the unthinkable - attacks on our most prominent landmarks and institutions, on our own soil.

This is exactly why I believe TWA 800 was a terrorist plot, (internal suitcase bomb or a surface-to-air missle). If Clinton had this reluctance to deal with terrorism anyway, how much more so was he reluctant to face the issue during the summer of '96 when he had his re-election campaign going on. I believe the conclusion of a fuel leak in the center compartment was pre-ordained.
And how much more wary would we, as a nation, have been prior to 9/11 if we had squarely faced this foreign terrorist attack in the late '90's?

You give Clinton too much credit; to say he "left" them for that purpose assumes he had the character and competence to deal with them properly. I don't think he did.

What's the deal with Dick Morris. I've seen him on Fox and he seems like a fishy backstabber. Is he in this for money? What did the clintons do to him, besides Bill tackling him and nearly punching him?

It has nothing to do with character (obviously--I mean, we're talking about Clintons here), but with craftiness. A man who wins two presidential elections is not "incompetent." To say so is to underestimate your enemy, and that is never, ever wise. What you might have assumed was "incompetence" was far more likely to have been deliberate crime, including but not limited to graft and treason.

Competence is too vague a term...he had the political competence to hoodwink enough Americans to get elected twice, but there are other areas of competence he lacked. He had the political skills to survive scandals, but not the skills to be a great president.

Clinton's welfare reform legislation has proven more successful than even its most ardent supporters had dreamed.
Clinton never had any welfare reform legislation.

No one despises the Clintons more than I do. No one.
Before 9/11, terrorism was just barely on our radar, mostly from isolated attacks on embassies. There is no political gain to be had from trying to force our post-9/11 mindset onto events and actions/inactions taken by previous administrations.
There is no moral superiority to be had from the fact that we are dealing with what could not have been prevented.

Thanks for the ping, Ronnie.
Many of Clinton's final acts were deliberate - including closing off ANWR to drilling, appointing 21 people, including Gore lawyer Jack Quinn, to the team that oversees the national cybersecurity, needlessly lowering the allowed arsenic in water, threatening the Taliban....ETC:
(July, '99) The Boston Globe, on the 25th, said, The 6-year-old boy watched intently as his father dusted off his favorite possession, a leather-bound scrapbook of Osama bin Laden, pausing at a photo of the Saudi dissident with a semiautomatic rifle tucked in the folds of his trademark white robe. ''Osama!'' his son squealed excitedly. ''That's me!'' The boy, whose name was changed to Osama last year, is one of hundreds of Pakistani children named for bin Laden since Aug. 20, 1998 - the day the United States launched missile strikes against alleged terrorist camps run by the Saudi millionaire in eastern Afghanistan. The attack sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. But the response was particularly heated in Pakistan, which sends thousands of Islamic guerrillas to similar training camps in Afghanistan. ''I love his bravery and gallantry,'' the boy's father, Niaz Ali Salar, said of bin Laden. ''He boosted the morale of Muslims throughout the world.'' The local leader of the radical Barelvi sect of Muslims, Salar said he hoped his son would ''live up to his name'' and lead the war against ''the enemies of Islam.'' In Mardan, a crumbling tobacco center 75 miles east of the Afghan border, Islamic priests deliver diatribes against ''evil America'' during Friday afternoon prayers.
In Pakistan, few buy Washington's vilification of bin Laden, whom it accuses of masterminding the Aug. 7, 1998, bombings of two US embassies in east Africa and several other terrorist attacks. ''He's a man on the run, whose only friends are the Taliban. How can he be a threat to the world's most powerful nation?'' said Sahib Zada Khalid Jan Binuri, head of Pakistan's most influential Islamic seminary. ''It's all spin control. If America tells me, `You are a terrorist,' what can I say?''

Clinton deliberately left a mess for George W. Bush (and left our nation in a weakened state) on his way out the WH door: The day after the Electoral College officially elected George W. Bush President-elect on Dec. 18, 2000, Clinton went to Kofi Annan and demanded that the UN place tougher sanctions on Afghanistan if the Taliban didn't hand over Bin Laden in 30 days. Clinton and Annan both knew how the Taliban and Bin Laden would react to this - Kofi pulled the UN workers out of Afghanistan the day he announced the new threat - Dec.20, 2000...to go into effect in 30 days - just in time for GW Bush's Inaugeration Day. Link
"Today, the United Nations removed all its remaining relief workers from the country, fearing a backlash from the Taliban, who will be almost completely isolated diplomatically when the resolution takes effect in 30 days, a grace period during which the Taliban could avoid sanctions by meeting the Council's demands." - Tough Sanctions Imposed on Taliban Government Split UN, by Barbara Crossette, New York Times, Dec. 20, 2000.

~ One morning at the nub end of Bill Clinton's presidency, Clinton chief of staff John Podesta walked into a senior staff meeting in the Roosevelt Room waving a copy of USA Today. Holding the paper aloft, Podesta read the headline out loud, "Clinton actions annoy Bush." The article detailed the new rules and Executive Orders the outgoing President was issuing in his final days, actions aimed in equal measure at locking in Clinton's legacy...and bedeviling his successor. "What's Bush so annoyed about?" Podesta asked with a devilish smile. "He's got four years to try to undo all the stuff we've done." ~ Link.
"We laid a few traps," chirps a happy Clinton aide.....

Agreed. He may be cagey, but he's an empty suit....with pants unzipped. He always put himself before duty and country....and anyone else, for that matter. And he surrounded himself with incompetents who knew nothing about governing (that would include his wife). When you add all that to his pathological problems, the mixture did not equal something we could call just harmlessly lame - it was downright dangerous for the nation.
