I hope you are wrong about that. Now that we've taken it on, we've got to at least provide Iraq with a relatively benign and hopefully secular dictatorship, beholden to the west.

The cost of failure is now SUPER high. So despite the fact that I thought this was a bone-headed idea borne of utter hubris and arrogance, I don't think we can turn tail now.

If some combination of the Shias and Baathist and pan-arabists drive us out. Iraq will be super hostile to the US for the rest of history. It will go nuclear as fast as it possibly can. ANd the UN will NEVER EVER impose sanctions on it again.

So we had better get this silly exercise right NOW.

Dog hating is definitely a hate crime. I love all animals. My daughter has a hermit crab, gerbils, rats, one cat, one dog and is pushing for a snake (wants one that eats grass instead of mice). I forgot, she also has a lizard.

Also, we have wounded birds and assorted wounded small wild animals from time to time-mostly victims of our cat. Our cat is a hunter-beloved by our neighbors because he kills rats. People borrow the cat sometimes so they can get rid of mice and rats.

In all seriousness though, I offer my condolences to the families of the British soldiers and hope sincerely that their killers are brought to justice very soon.
