Looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Falwell has worked too hard for too long to support too many causes and candidates who sound like they want to reimpose the blue laws.

As a result, the rest of us won't be voting for or supporting those - and we'll be actively working against them.

In other words, every time some smiling goon tells us how legalized gambling is a sin and cannot be allowed, and how alcohol is a sin, we form impressions.

I say the surest way to look at Jerry Falwell's ideal moral polity is to look at the rules he has set forth at his campus - and that those are the rules he wishes on us all.

Sounds kinda like Nehemiah Scudder, wouldn't you agree?

You and I might consider the place a prison, but others might not.

Scrooge also said something about "decreasing the surplus population," a laudable goal considering the numbingly frequent occurrence of unplanned pregnancies in the US. And, judging from a quick read-through of the rules in that place, about the only pregnant things on that campus are pauses.

"One question: If all these rules make the kids "uncreative", how about your co-workers? What is the dress code at your work??? Is it so horrible that your boss makes you were clean, nice clothes? "

I'll second that. Can you use alcohol at work? Most places that would get you fired. Can you bring pornography to work? Not only would you get fired, if they didn't fire you they could be successfully sued in civil court for creating a sexually oppressive environment. Can you date employees under your supervision? Not.

We had a Baptist college not too far from where I lived. I used to visit when my cousins were there. It was really a nice environment. I went to state school and watched some of my friends turn to alcohol and drugs. If I could have afforded it, I would have loved a campus like Liberty.

Yes, and other free people have the right to mock them.

I would have used the term "voting with my feet" or "never setting foot inside that horrible place" myself, but your statement is apt as well.

...about the only pregnant things on that campus are pauses.

That was beautiful, and deserves repetition.

Actually, I know one of Falwells ministries is that he has a lot of homes for unwed pregnant mothers where they can go rather than face an abortion. I bet a lot of them are enrolled on campus.

(bows)

One does what one can. I've put my foot squarely between my tonsils enough for one day (another completely unrelated situation of a personal nature); I needed to say something with some elegance for a change.

It would make sense; the infrastructure is certainly present.

Maybe to show how far out of the "mainstream" Falwell and his acolytes are?

And that's a bad thing? Personally I'm thrilled that I have a 17 year old daughter that is so far out of the mainstream. I sleep sound at night.

And every law is an imposition of morality,...

Here's a law: "No Parking". How is that an imposition of morality?

...even laws that would lift bans on drug use is an imposition of someone's morality.

Lifting bans on drug use is not imposing morality, it's just the opposite. It's allowing each person to decide his own morals on that subject. How can the absence of regulation--which is called freedom--be the imposition of morality?

Thank you for the verses. Although it's plain to see by just the comments here on this thread Christians are becoming the outsiders in the 'conservative' party more quickly than some would admit to.

Are the rules somewhat legalistic? Perhaps, but it is a private college, and I see them as trying to maintain the standards that I hope and pray I can do for my own children one day.

I didn't know the Taliban had a university in this country.

When was the last public execution at Liberty University?

Video here.

Are you really that ignorant about how brutal the Taliban were or are you trying to stir up unfounded hate? CAUTION: graphic photo.

Those kids look very nice. My son dresses by the same code willingly. Just because some kids still dress modestly and unoffensivly should not make them subject to ridicule.

Liberty University is a Godly college and they teach kids to be respectful inwardly and outwardly. This is a thing uncommon in America today. I think the rules are good ones.

"How can the absence of regulation--which is called freedom--be the imposition of morality? "

Because it doesn't stay in the privacy of the home. It spills over into the public arena and the community is impacted.

I have been getting the impression of late that Christians are becoming unwelcome here at FR. All the threads ridiculing us is becoming a bit much.

"they are unconsciously teaching that God doesn't love you if you sin "

They are not and that is directly opposed to what they "consciously" teach. Those rules simply say that you can't stay at Liberty University and do those things. It says nothing about whether God loves you. "and that people do not have the ability...even with the Holy Spirit...to control themselves. Instead, they need ridiculous restrictions to keep themselves in line. "

In corporations you have outside auditors. Not because you don't trust your financial officers. But because you know that not every one is trustworthy and that some people are going to fool you. So you trust noone. You hold everyone accountable in a corporation. The Bible says to hold each other accountable.

Having those rules in place enforces the environment. It allows the school to reprimand and kick out anyone who is disruptive to that environment. They need the regulations because with 10,000 students, a few are going to be disruptive. It doesn't say anything about the vast majority of the students.

My family loves brother Jerry. I grew up in Lynchburg, Va. 1410 Kemper street across from Blue Buckle garment factory. I remember when I was 10 years old and Thomas Roads Baptist church had it's beginnings. Ah, those were the days. I am so glad Liberty sprang from it. They offer some very good courses we have taken as a family here at home.

Gee, I guess everybody forgot how Osama Bin Falwell blamed 9-11 on America being so immoral, and went off on several public rants on it.

You'd think that some folks would remember that Jerry pretty much implied that the terrorists were divine messengers of God, punishing wicked America before defending his sorry fat ass.
