There is no such thing as society: there are individual men and women, and there are families

A world without nuclear weapons would be less stable and more dangerous for all of us.

I owe nothing to Women's Lib

Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do, and you've done it."

I don't know what I would do without Whitelaw. Everyone should have a Willy.

To wear your heart on your sleeve isn't a very good plan; you should wear it inside, where it functions best

If my critics saw me walking over the Thames they would say it was because I couldn't swim.

I don't mind how much my ministers talk -- as long as they do what I say

What Britain needs is an iron lady.

I seem to smell the stench of appeasement in the air

There are still people in my party who believe in consensus politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors... I mean it.

Europe was created by history. America was created by philosophy

If you want anything said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman.

Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country

To cure the British disease with socialism was like trying to cure leukaemia with leeches.

Economics are the method; the object is to change the soul

No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he only had good intentions. He had money as well

I have made it quite clear that a unified Ireland was one solution that is out. A second solution was a confederation of two states. That is out. A third solution was joint authority. That is out-that is a derogation of sovereignty.

Of course, it is the same old story. Truth usually is the same old story

I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left

There can be no liberty unless there is economic liberty.

I am extraordinarily patient provided I get my own way in the end

One hopes to achieve the zero option, but in the absence of that we must achieve balanced numbers.

If you lead a country like Britain, a strong country, a country which has taken a lead in world affairs in good times and in bad, a country that is always reliable, then you have to have a touch of iron about you."

You don't tell deliberate lies, but sometimes you have to be evasive

If you want to cut your own throat, don't come to me for a bandage.

You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it

To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects

The cocks may crow, but it's the hen that lays the egg

I wasn't lucky. I deserved it

This lady is not for turning

On my way here I passed a local cinema and it turned out you were expecting me after all, for the billboards read: The Mummy Returns.

It pays to know the enemy -- not least because at some time you may have the opportunity to turn him into a friend

I've got a woman's ability to stick to a job and get on with it when everyone else walks off and leaves it.

The battle for women's rights has been largely won

I am in politics because of the conflict between good and evil, and I believe that in the end good will triumph

It is not the creation of wealth that is wrong, but the love of money for its own sake.

I usually make up my mind about a man in ten seconds, and I very rarely change it

A well ordered society would be one where the State only had a negative action, comparable to that of a rudder: a light pressure at the right moment to counteract the first suggestion of any loss of equilibrium.

If it is once again one against forty-eight, then I am very sorry for the forty-eight

Power is like being a lady... if you have to tell people you are, you aren't

I do not know anyone who has gotten to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but it will get you pretty near

People think that at the top there isn't much room. They tend to think of it as an Everest. My message is that there is tons of room at the top

"Europe was created by history. America was created by philosophy"

This is a great foreign relations line we could use now... just don't tell the rest of the world where it came from. LOL

"If my critics saw me walking over the Thames they would say it was because I couldn't swim."

Ain't that the truth!!!!

"Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country."

If only Democrats looked at the budget like they were running their home... no you cannot pay your bills if you have given all your money to support your neighbors kids that with every opportunity in the world, would still rather eat potato chips on the couch.

"I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left"

I remind myself of this regularly. LOL

"To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects"

Amen. Take the lashing and say what you mean!

Don't we all.

There are still people in my party who believe in consensus politics.
I regard them as Quislings, as traitors... I mean it.

Would that we could tattoo that on every Republican politician.

This quote did (and still does) have me scratching my head. Was she talking about Klinton and should it be Whitewater, not Whitelaw?

I don't know what I would do without Whitelaw. Everyone should have a Willy.

Ya know, I saw that one too and puzzled a bit. I thought she meant it as a double-entendre.
