I went there for COMDEX in 1993. I thought it was ridiculous that they were beginning to market Las Vegas as a "familiy" vaction destination. At every corner there was gangs of drifters who would go up to people and hand out flyers promoting call girls. They would even try hand out this garbage to married men in front of their wives and children.
What I found really funny is how ordinary Las Vegas tourists complained about the high prices charged in Las Vegas during COMDEX. The Interface Group that runs COMDEX basically rents out all the hotels during COMDEX, and the hotels charge the same rates they would charge in New York or Los Angeles. Tourists expecting highly discounted rooms were disappointed. I overheard a bartender talking to some retirees and he complained that people attending COMDEX don't gamble.
I believe there is a 10pm curfew in Las Vegas. I think that it partially exists to stem teenage prostitution.
Interesting correlation.
