If this guy is smiling about the new Medicare bill, you can bet that it's bad for your health.
Often times, political commentators describe the legislative process as a "sausage factory."
Because after House-Senate Conference Committees, after the ping-pong bill-bounce from one chamber to the other, after the token partisan bickering, the process gets bogged down in details and minutiae and everyone forgets the "big picture."
Remember the old story about what would happen if the government were in charge of eradicating polio? Patients would still have polio, but you'd have the best steel lung money could buy!
Your American Conservative Union believes that the Congressional sausage factory is about to churn out a piece of legislation that will make Ted and his comrade-in-arms Hillary Rodham Clinton smile.
When the legislative process gets bogged down in feel-good rhetoric about whether we should expand government by this much or by that much, you can count on the resulting bill being a government-expanding mess of policywonk mishmash that only a handful of Capitol Hill staffers understand.
Much like when in 1994 then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton tried to change America's health care system with her secret closed-door bureaucrat committees, the current Medicare "reform" proposals were created in secret. Your American Conservative Union helped take down that 1994 health care monstrosity and we hope to do the same to this hastily conceived piece of legislation.
President George Bush originally laid out some sound basic ideas for reform, ones that called for choice that would truly reform Medicare. But the Senate outline looks nothing like the President's plan and unfortunately only a few conservatives in the House are standing up to this legislative steamroller.
Don't pay attention to the rhetorical promise for drug coverage.
As we saw in the battle over the Clinton Health Care Plan, the real fight in health care is over the details and many of them will cost seniors more and will discourage private insurance companies. Please go to www.conservative.org and let your Senator's know that you support President's Bush ORIGINAL plan for Medicare reform.
Anyways time to save a well meaning, patriotic, pro-military, president from himself. The original plan wasn't bad it just couldn't get through the Senate. The devil is in the compromises.
Or maybe he's just drunk
He's still waiting for the "zone of privacy" to include his car going over bridges.
