If you lived there, believe me, you would know what "lost" means. I have seen beautiful crops of cotton one day with nothing but stripped stalks the next. I could never have been a cotton farmer because I could never have lived with losing crops.

In earlier times I spent countless hours walking, hoe in hand, up and down the rows of cotton in West TN. I think perhaps I was the last of the sharecroppers, and wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

Hail? Wind? What exactly is causing the problem? Something to do with "storms", and contradictory-sounding comments on rainfall.
