You know, I don't know if he is motivated by the rightness of his actions, or if he simply, as you say, knows what side his bread is buttered on. But...
It would be rather foolish and very naive of us to expect him to simply make decisions based on his convictions. I don't have a problem with him making his decisions based on the gain he will recieve. The U.S. does - why shouldn't Musharraf?

Very good piece. I have a lot of admiration for Musharraf.
When one considers what he has accomplished despite the opposition he faces, one can't help but wonder why Republicans struggle against Democrat opposition.
One addition:
There is no more serious talk about driving Israel into the sea, because even the Palestinians realize that when push comes to shove, America will stand back and let Israel do what it will to defend itself.
And Israel showed, during
The Six-Days War and other times, that Israel is more than capable of the task.
