Former CAIR Officer Indicted

On 3 July, 2003, ABC News announced that the government has presented information leading to the federal indictment of eleven men who had trained in the woods of Fairfax County, Virginia with “AK-47” style assault weapons. According to the government, the men had also participated in warlike paintball games to practice military tactics in Spotsylvania County and had practiced shooting at various shooting ranges.

Of the eleven indicted, one name stands out: Mr. Randall Todd Royer, who has served as a communications specialist and as a civil rights coordinator for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). The government alleges that Mr. Royer trained with the “Lashkar-e-Taiba” (army of the righteous) group, a Kashmir terrorist group that is listed on the State Departments international terror list. Lashkar-e-Taiba is reportedly linked with al-Qaida, the Islamist terror group behind the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Mr. Royer, along with his alleged co-conspirators, has been charged with a variety of firearms violations and attempting to mount a military attack against a friendly nation, India.

This is not the first time that CAIR has had its officers arrested for Islamist-terror related crimes; Mr. Bassem Khafagi, CAIR’s director of community relations was arrested this past January and Mr. Siraj Wahhaj, CAIR Advisory Board member has been named as “one of the “unindicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators” in a plot to blow up monuments in New York City several years ago.

Once again, CAIR has been embarrassed by links between its senior leadership and terrorism. How long must we wait until the federal government takes those steps necessary to investigate CAIR as a terrorist sponsoring organization?

I'd like to see Fox News, et al stop inviting these CAIR people on as guests. They need to be de-legitimized in every way.

Folks here want an anti-abortion amendment to the constitution, a death penalty amendment, an anti-gay marriage amendment, etc. Maybe we should consider an Anti-Islam amendment. The United States will work with such moderate and modern governments to reverse the spread of extremist ideology and those who seek to impose totalitarian ideologies on our Muslim allies and friends. The Bottom Line

Sami Al-Arian -- and those who share his extremist views, defend his conduct and have tried to legitimate him politically -- are not on President Bush's side in the war on terror. They should, therefore, be seen as unfit to be by his side in implementing his strategy for winning that war.

No amendment needed. Might not even need a new law. Yes, to put it mildly. My understanding was that Norquist wanted to go after the Arab vote in order to counter Jewish support for the Dem Party/Liberalism. I have no way of knowing if there was any more sinister reasons. But, nice an idea as that may have been, it should have been thrown out along with that morning's newspapers on Sept. 11, 2001.

I waited and waited to see widespread rejection of what happened that day, by American-based Muslims. I waited and waited to see patriotic support for our country from Muslims in this nation. Aside from a few individuals, and some at photo-ops, many of whom it know must be noted were just plants from CAIR, etc. I didn't see it.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but if it did, I didn't see it. We CANNOT let what has happened in Europe happen here, with Muslims living in their own little backward and violent world, abusing their women and plotting our destruction.

In WWII we had the 442 CBT BDE, and when put into combat, it was all NESI enlisted (second generation Japanese who were born in America) and WASP Officers. The BDE is still honored today for it's tenacity in battle and the skills of it soldiers. The NESI wanted to show that they were loyal Americans and fight for America; even though their families were forcefully rounded up an put in detention camps.

Well, .. .. .. there has been no mass Muslim round up after 9/11, but there also was no mass rush to the recruiting station and still hasn't been to form a new version of the 44-Deuce. CAIR and other groups just want to holler about every possible/perceived/ and yes sometimes, concocted civil rights violation.

So I ask again, where is the new 44-Deuce made up of Americans who are Muslim?????? Has anyone seen it forming, training, heard of it's victories in battle defending America????? Am I the only one who finds this a little scary. Let's review the story, shall we:

There is the main paragraph describing what they are accused of. OK, well gee. That's not much. I mean I go to the boonies near where I live and shoot semi-autos. I don't play paintball, but some of the fellows I shoot with do. They certainly 'practice military tactics' when playing paintball, that's the key to the game as I understand it. And finally I belong to two gun clubs and shoot at both of them regularly, again often with the same friends who play paintball. Nothing described in this paragraph (which is designed to sound sinister and evil "AK-47" being a code word for "evil, bad" to most liberals) appears to be remotely illegal to me.

Here it says what they are actually CHARGED with:

OKAY. What"firearms violations?" Could we get a little more specific? Some technical violation of the 20,000 gun laws? And then of course there is "attempting to mount a military attack against a friendly nation, India"

Leaving aside the question of whether India is really a friendly nation what evidence do they have that they were attempting to mount a military attack? Does shooting AK's and playing paintball now constitute de-facto proof of attempting a military attack?

I see a lot of people jumping to conclusions here. I for one would like to see a lot more evidence before I agree that these people are part of a conspiracy to attack India. Where they organizing logistics? Were they in contact with people there? Remmeber the FBI and assorted three letter agencies have a pretty bad record for missing the mark on finding terrorists. This includes amazing things like overlooking the Chinese spy working for them for 10 years as well as falsly accusing lots of people (Atlanta bombing, Waco, FBI Crime Lab, etc.) of crimes they had nothing to do with.

Nothing in the above set of comments should be interpreted as the author having any sympathy for actual terroists or the Islamic or Islamist religion or political movements. I do not. But even for people with names like "Mohammed" I believe the American standard "innocent until proven guilty" applies. Lets see some proof, then hang em' high.

your question is a good one. On just what is in your question and without doing any follow on questioning I would be tempeted to say no.

Questions that I want asked and answered are:

1. Where did they get the AK's?

2. Did they get them legally?

3. Were they doing the shooting at an approved marksmanship range?

4. When they were paintballing were they doing it a an approved paintball range as just part of the every day crowd or were they off on their own in an unauthorized area doing something else?

5. Who was teaching them military tactics at the squad and possibly higher levels? What does his background check revel?

6. What exactly were the tactics they were practicing and what were the objectives that they were practicing to go after?

All questions that need to be asked, but I assure you that none of the talking heads in the PC media have the brains to ask those questions much less come up with the questions.

The answers, if truthfully given will paint the real picture.

I would hazard to bet that the FBI asked those questions and has the answers otherwise they would not have proceeded as they did. Answers that paint a picture that is not pretty and definately would not indicate another "ATF/FBI Waco" or "a ripping apart of the Constitution."

No, that's ABC's knucklehead interpretation of what they are accused of. Gun possession and paintball war games are not crimes, unless the guns are purchased with intent to commit a crime, or the paintball "games" were practice for their ultimate goal: joining a terrorist group and participating in armed warfare against an ally of the United States (in this case, India).

 

The counts of the indictment include "commencing an expedition against a friendly nation," receipt of firearm or ammunition with cause to believe will be committed therewith," "acquisition of a firearm after arrival from a foreign country with intent to engage in crime of violence," "transfer of a firearm for use in a crime of violence," "conspiracy to possess and use a firearm in connection with a crime of violence," "false official statement," "using a firearm in connection with a crime of violence."

 

These were no boy scouts having fun with paintball guns -- they are radical Islamists using the freedoms afforded by this country to wage jihad on another country -- and then safely retreat like scurrying rats back to the comfortable homes in the U.S., where they bragged of their exploits.

 

Although I don't expect someone who accepts ABC's interpretation of anything to be legitimately interested in the truth, here's the actual indictment:

The original poster did not post the indictment. I was commenting on what he posted. Thank you for posting the indictment, this is useful.

As someone who distrusts mainstream media are you at all concerned that the inditment relies on information from the Washington Post, Washington Times, New York Times, CNN.com, and BBC News to make their case? This is clearly called out in sections 5,6,7 and 8. You don't think I'm interested in the truth because I trust ABC's "knuckleheaded interpretation" of what they are accused of but you trust FedGov to use these same sources and arrive at the truth. Strange.

In any case much more interesting than that they used AK-47s at the shooting range is that they flew to Pakistan, went to the terrorist ouposts and shot at Indian troops. Funny how that didn't make the summary. We are being indoctrinated to think target practice is illegal instead of shooting at people. Funny they didn't report it that way.

I would certainly agree that the govt. has a pretty good case that these fellows are wanna-be terrorists who wanted to attack India and possibly the United States troops in Pakistan as well.
