They have already done it in the land of the Union Jack. Just ask the farmer Tony Martin (who is serving a life term for shooting a repeat burglar in his own home.

Thanks for the reply. I'm new (as far as being a member on FR), but a loooooooong time reader of FR's postings. I'm pro-gun,conservative, and have a constant craving for venison, and any wild game I have the opportunity to get my hands on. I normally hunt the Catskills/NW New Jersey/PA area. I hear your deer have bigger antlers down there, but the "bruisers" are up here.

It's not the guns. It's the attitude of the hunter and action he took. If he can't control himself and refrain from physical violence against an unarmed person, maybe, just maybe, he doesn't need his precious firearm...

If he didn't use his gun, he showed all the restraint he needs to own a gun.

It sounds to me as though you have a bit of an attitude about guns, with that "precious firearm" remark. Maybe this whole thread is more about your feelings than about what actually happened.

Good for you! Nothing like a good 12 gauge pump to make tresspassers think twice. Wish I had you for a neighbor.

Although in these parts, warnings to tresspassers are not mandatory, it has been demonstrated that a 12-ga "bird bomb" round - fired in airburst mode -- has a salutary effect on motorized tresspassers.

Tends to cause them to make a hasty exit -- without much route pre-planning. I hear tell some have had unpleasent encounters with briar vines and "bobwar" on their way off the premises.

Even then, I expect they were relieved that it was only the second (and following) rounds in the pump-gun's long mag that were loaded with buckshot/slugs...

Scratches & contusions? Serves 'em right for being on the wrong side of that "bobwar" (Texian for what is elsewhere known as "three strands of barbed wire").

Why thank you kind sir. Up here we're pretty much live and let live. It's the city folk and their kids on motorized wheels coming up here to vacation or upgrade their living standards that seem to be the most trouble. Local kids will ask permission to camp by the creek or ride through on a weekend usually, if they don't a talk with their folks takes care of it.

I also feed the deer, turkey, wood ducks, bears, fox and by default the squirrels, crows and other birds. Everyone around here knows that to hunt on or near my property may mean getting answering fire back. I have nothing against hunting but there is a time and a place. At no time on my place but there are plenty of other areas for that.

Allen Bradley photoswitches at all entry points and gates, then connected them to an indicator panel in the house and barn.

Wow, sounds great.

And, YEWW, about the decapitation.

We just got everything paid off and are in the process of taking care of that type of security. We're going with electric gates at the three entry ways first. Which will look hilarious for a while with the trailer I'll be living in till I can pay for my custom built cabin. Just can't stand being in any kind of debt. Security comes first.

Welcome to FR. Couldn't tell you about average deer size in GA - they all look alike to me (except for the antlers of course). I understand that PA has the largest deer population of any eastern state, but they're getting to be a nusance around here. There are places where driving late at light you are definitely at risk of running into one - like east of Atlanta around the Hard Labor Creek area. I haven't been hunting in many years, my interest in weapons runs to the more second amendment types.

If he didn't use his gun

If it were a foxhunt (which it was) he wouldn't have had a gun anyway.

My only attitude about guns is that there aren't enough of them in the hands of law-abiding people. I fully support property rights, gun ownership (have one, encourage others to get theirs) and concealed carry where possible. So, don't take words out of the context of the argument and try to show me as a grabber.

My point was, this guy was a moron for assaulting an unarmed female, regardless of whether she was tresspassing. In my eyes, his assault is far worse than her tresspassing.

The firearm statement was made in reference to those who look at any little thing to take away our rights. Sorry if I needed the sarcasm tag.

If this was a case of the protesters tresspassing and assaulting the foxhunters, then running the film when they were retaliated against, then I think that the assault may have been justified. If the guy was indeed nailed with perfume (could have been anything with the greenie-weenies involved) and did indeed think he'd been gassed, I'd say the beating was justifiable. However, if they were standing there with signs or shouting at the hunters, they should have detained them and called the authorities.

"I normally hunt the Catskills/NW New Jersey/PA area. I hear your deer have bigger antlers down there, but the "bruisers" are up here."

Seamus, I've lived in NE PA (near Wilkes-Barre) and yes, you do have some big deer up thar. But man, I'd rather live down here in occupied GA (grin). Those cops in NJ feel they have a right to confiscate any and all firearms. Having live in Ga for about 4 years now, there is NO WAY I will ever live the police states of the NE (PA isn't too bad, but MA, NJ, and NY-you might as well live in some socialist state where firearms are prohibited).

Another beautiful thing about GA is we have the rare jack-a-lopes in great quantity. Even got a few trophies and have seen plenty in the various barber shops down here.

I saw a bunch of Jack-A-Lope mounting kits at a hunting store in Scranton, PA. My buddy brought back a Jack-A-Lope from Colorado. Man, was that good eatin'!

entered private land in Petworth Park
Petworth Park is operated by the National Trust (not a gov't agency despite the name) and is open to the public although there are some areas off-limits, so a trespassing charge might not stick.
