It's worse than that.
Texas A&M is being overhauled, too. Know why? It's "too white". They have new ethnic-diversity targets. They want to change "the culture" (too Western, too Texan, too American). And the people who want to overhaul it are supported by the big-money Republicans, Blue Dogs and RiNO ring-knockers who run the University. Phil Gramm ran unsuccessfully for president of the university -- I still don't know the inside baseball on that one.
The Corps of Cadets got a new ex-Army Commandant a few years ago who promptly rewrote the Corps manual to ban any -- any -- Confederate insignia. A student had a small flag sticker on his footlocker -- they made him take it off or leave the Corps (the school?).
There is a passel of carpetbagging Yankee weasels working the place over, to turn it into a campus Andrea Dworkin and Eric "the Red" Foner could be proud of. What they mostly want to get rid of is the conservative, male, and traditional image the school has had, never mind that it's always been a mechanical, agricultural, military, and engineering school. And a damn good geology and oceanography school too, by the way.
