Well, it says he "retired," technically.

Actually, I reread and it stated Wilkinson "retired" two MONTHS later. Same issue though, it seems the guy was a CIA employee. Generally, it would be Tenet who would actually present the info to Bush drung a Security Council Executive Meeting.

Thompson is defending the article here:

Interesting......I called Doug Thompson's number, both registered for the CHB site on WHOIS and also on his website dougthompson.com and the person who answered the phone said I got the wrong number.

Interesting.

This Doug guy just doesn't want to be reached at all.

No wonder the only contact info on CHB's site is for an "info" e-mail address.

Very suspicious for a "news" organization.

I agree that such articles need better source researching. After all, I still hold conservatives to a higher standard than Jason Blair. Just because someone is conservative, that doesn't excuse bad reportage. (There are those claiming to be conservative that post fabricated material in other, more contentious, threads.)

There's a stench here, that's for sure.

Yes! and it stinks to high heaven! This is not the first time Capital Hill Blue has shown their real colors. The title of their article is only their first lie!!!

Are you registered to post? I don't see anyone over their asking about the credentials of CHB's source.

No, sorry. It looks like it might be the best place to ask questions of Thompson. Whether or not he answers them could be revealing.

Indeed, as he is trying to hide from phone contact, giving phony phone numbers.

From the article...Bush said in his State of the Union address that the British government had learned that Saddam recently sought significant quantities of uranium in Africa.

The president's statement was incorrect because it was based on forged documents from the African nation of Niger, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer acknowledged.

Wasn't this disclosed at one of the UN meetings? A more interesting story, a story more to the point would be about who forged the documents.

This type of item by item sniping is not going to uncover what the opposition is looking for, particularly when the reasons for military action stood on no particular leg of information but rather multiple legs. As Condi Rice recently said, she has been criticized for not connecting the very few dots that could have prevented September 11. The dots, she went on to say, involving Iraq numbered in the hundreds and thousands.

Wow. Nothing over there yet regarding your question as to whether Wilkinson exists. Maybe they are all over here looking for and reading this discussion.

In case they ARE over here reading this thread:

Doug,

1)Can you provide documentation that your 'source' actually exists?

2)Did you have at least 2 sources before you ran with this story?

3)Do you always print YOUR interpretation (spin) on what constitutes lying?

I'm listening to Hugh to see if he mentions the article or our FReepin request asking his staff to see what (if anything) they can find on the phantom Wilkenson.

If anybody wanted to contact me they could have done it here. I've been a member of Free Republic almost since the beginning.

I'm not surprised you didn't turn anything up on Google. People in certain lines of work don't have web sites and don't get quoted in the paper that often. I've known Terry Wilkinson for 20+ years and his decision to go public was a painful one that I'm sure will bring recriminations. But he loves his country a lot more than any political party or politician. I've received some emails today regarding his comments and have forwarded them on to him. It's his decision as to whether or not he wishes to respond.

But I don't feed anyone's desire for a witch hunt. When we ran the stories about Bill Clinton's sexual assaults on women, we identified a number of the women and the stories were widely discussed here. I don't recall anyone at Free Republic demanding "proof" of their identity although I did have a number of liberal media types hounding me for more information. I didn't share additional information with them on Bill Clinton's victims and I won't to anyone else on Terry Wilkinson.

It has been said here that I hate George Bush. I don't. I do have problems with some of the actions of his administration and I feel he was wrong to use undocumented information to justify the war with Iraq -- a war that Capitol Hill Blue supported without hesitation in a strong editorial on our home page.

However, I'm a journalist and, as such, don't play favorites with any politician or political party. If I feel any elected official has violated public trust, I question their actions. That's my job. If Al Gore were in the White House, I imagine the folks over at DU would be questioning my ancestry too.

I stand by the stories that run on our web site. You are free to read them or not read them, believe them or not believe them just as you are free to believe or question stories that appear in any other publication. It's a free world.

Doug
