MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP) An 8-year-old boy who safely stopped his aunt's sport utility vehicle after she went into diabetic shock will be recommended for Scouting's top lifesaving award.

Cub Scout Brandon DiMatties of Monroe will be nominated for the Honor Medal with Cross Palms by Ron Pierson, assistant executive of the Southern New Jersey Council of the Boys Scouts of America.

Hey, hey! A BSA posting that I didn't post. Anyway, I hate to be a curmudgeon, but I wouldn't give this kid the crossed palms, although he certainly merits the lifesaving medal. Where's the extreme risk to his life to save someone else's? Driving the car off the road? That saved his life as much as anyone's, and he had no choice in any case. But for doing that and dealing with his aunt's diabetic shot deserves the Lifesaving Medal award.

What sources do you use to find these articles in the newspapers? This one happened to be in our state issues newspaper.

The boy, who is a member of Cub Pack 70 in Williamstown, said he learned about diabetes from a book from school.

Brilliant! Applying theory to a real life situation is hard enough for adults much less being a grade schooler. The BSA is honored to be associated with such a hero.
