The only point I take from this is that this guy now reviles HItchens because Hitchens no longer believes that America is the cause of all the evil in the world.

That, plus the author has quite a bit of self-loathing (a prerequisite for today's liberals). I bet that the projection of hatred stems from that, at least in part. The sickness of inexplicable hatred is so prevalent among the cultists (liberals, I mean) that there has to be some general explanation like that.
