B.C. court OK's gay marriage - first gay couple legally married in British Columbia

B.C. court OK's gay marriage

Lifts moratorium

By CP

VANCOUVER -- Tom Graff choked on tears yesterday as he vowed to love and cherish Antony Porcino, his partner of 11 years, "as long as we both shall live."

The pair became the first gay couple to legally wed in British Columbia, barely an hour after the province's Court of Appeal lifted a one-year moratorium on same-sex marriages yesterday.

WAITS ON FEDS

The Appeal Court had earlier ruled in favour of same-sex marriages but imposed a ban until next July to permit the federal government to draft a new law redefining marriage.

But gay groups asked the court to revisit its moratorium after an Ontario Court of Appeal ruling opened the door to same-sex marriages in that province and Ottawa began drafting a new marriage law.

The three-member Appeal Court panel noted neither the B.C. nor federal attorneys general opposed lifting the ban.

"It is also apparent that any further delay in implementing the remedies will result in an unequal application of the law between Ontario and British Columbia," the decision said.

Graff, 58, and Porcino, 38, were in court to hear the decision.

"We're thrilled, very proud now, not just for us but for all the people that have been working on this for so long," Porcino said.

B.C. Attorney General Geoff Plant said it was a historic day, telling a local radio station the provincial government had taken no position because the definition of marriage is a federal responsibility.

You find unhappy people sticking their noses into everyone else's business all the time and there's not much you can do about it - part of human nature. \

IF the homonazis stayed out of the schools, out of the BSA, didn't force themselves in to the public eye trying to CHANGE society, I wouldn't give a flying f**k what nastiness they do to themselves in the privacy of their own closet and bedrooms and doghouses.

I strongly object and will continue to do so in a louder and louder voice here and elsewhere about THEM trying to change the society and world to suit them. I and many other conservatives have been perfectly willing to leave them alone. But they do not want to leave us alone.

And yet, there they are. Gaining ground.

Being loud and angry isn't winning you any converts. Now what?

Some people say that the homosexualization of society is inevitable, so lie back and take it. That is the same advice that used to be given to women in the event of rape - don't fight it, just take it. Now the advice is to fight back. Well, I'm fighting back. It's only inevitable if wimps give in to the homonazis.

The more people - especially people who still have open minds - hear the truth about homosexual behavior and its consequences both to individuals and society, the more people will reject it's claim that it is either innocuous or beneficial - or inevitable.

MY RESPONSE TO THOSE FREEPERS WHO OPPOSE HJR 56...

First and foremost this is NOT petty... it is critical in this day and age that we RE-AFFIRM our MORAL foundation. I AGREE with those opponents who are concerned that the U.S. Constitution should not have to be this SPECIFIC, ....HOWEVER, our JUSTICE system has failed us miserably... by equating a union of two people of the same sex to MARIAGE....

this is a HUGE step in destroying the MORAL foundation of our laws.

I believe that by NOT passing this ammendment the effect will be exactly what some opponenets fear will occur if we DO pass it......

IMHO, it will encourage leftists to try to put their own crap into our laws using the judiciary, and taking advantage of its failure to ensure decisions are grounded in MORALITY........

This Ammendment will send the message LOUD AND CLEAR to our JUDICIARY that we WANT them to make decisions that are grounded in MORALITY and if they don't know what that is then WE THE PEOPLE will have to explain it to them in the CONSTITUTION!!!

I am reading most of these responses in utter shock as I shake my head in disbelief. All of these snide remarks. . .coming from those I am quite sure have not had to deal with the fight for equal rights. Homosexuals do not do anything to your lives! And if you want to get biblical, as quoted by Jesus Christ, "He who has no sin in his life throw the first stone" - Nobody threw the stone. Homosexuals wanting to marry is a good thing! It's monogamy we are talking about here - people who love each other whether is disgusts you or not. You might have your own personal thing I find disgusting, but we shouldn't attack or make fun of one another. We are adults now. Let's put down our stones of hatred, judgement, and hypocricy - and be civil!

Scolding rejected. You have no idea how homosexuals have affected my life. No, I won't go into details either.
