CHICAGO - A suburban Chicago man was arrested Wednesday on charges of serving as an unregistered agent of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s government, including spying on opposition leaders for Iraqi intelligence, federal officials said.
Khaled Abdel-Latif Dumeisi, 60, of Oak Lawn was arrested based on a dossier found in Baghdad in April and turned over to the FBI (news - web sites).
U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement that Dumeisi had furnished information to Iraqi intelligence without registering as a foreign agent.
"Those who gather information in the United States about people living in America for the purpose of providing the information to hostile governments should understand that the FBI will pursue them vigorously," Fitzgerald said.
Federal law requires anyone acting as an agent of a foreign government who is not a member of that country's diplomatic service to register with the Justice Department (news - web sites) as a foreign agent.
Dumeisi never did so, federal officials said.
They said members of the Iraqi National Congress, an opposition group, discovered a dossier in a Baghdad safehouse run by Iraq (news - web sites)'s intelligence service in the days when Saddam's regime was crumbling.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement that Dumeisi had furnished information to Iraqi intelligence without registering as a foreign agent. So it would have been OK if he had been registered?

Hide and Seek, apparently. IMHO, he's in the stolen/hijacked 727. The plane was reported to have made a stop in Beruit.
To: Dog
A two step process should now occur. First, bleed him for info. Next, test his flying skills by dropping him from the tallest building in town.

Remember that due to 9/11/01, the tallest building in town is now the tallest building in the U.S. And depending on your definition of building height, the tallest in the world.

The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FAR A) of 1938 requires foreign agents to disclose their connections with foreign governments, foreign political parties, and other foreign principals to the Foreign Agents Registration Unit at the Department of Justice.

Book Agent?
To: Chi-townChief
After seeing what happened in New York--and in DC--I'd be panicked, too, and want to get away from there as soon as I could. And I do believe that the Sears Tower was on the possible target list.
Thinking of that day brings back some terrifying memories.

I think Chi-townChief can describe it better, but I consider Oak Lawn IL to be a 'burb of Chicago, not a separate small town.

Ok. Suburb. Same difference IMO.... It just seems to me these "sleepers" are always found out in "sleeper" communities or small villages
near metropolitan cities.
Maybe I'm forgetting or maybe I'm paranoid, but my feeling of security (for being outside Houston) is failing. ;-/
