Mitch Albom slanders Michael Savage
Posted on 07/09/2003 5:14:09 PM PDT by Liberatio
Did anyone happen to hear Mitch Albom's show today and his comments regarding Michael Savage? I do not like Mitch Albom's show but it is the only thing really on during my evening commute from work. He made references to Michael Savage, all very negative and making fun of him after Mitch Albom said he doesn't normally talk about fellow radio talk show hosts. If anyone can find a transcript or audio from Mitch Alboms show today, I would very much appreciate it. I think anyone who wants to let Mitch Albom know about what really hapend with Michael Savage.

Michael shot himself in the foot. His New York street mouth finally cost him some money instead of making it.

I think for it to be slander whatever he said must not be true. So what did he say about Savage that isn't true?

Mitch Albom refered to him as a arch-conservative and that he only recently became one. He also said Michael Savage regularly calls for the killing of people even though if you listen to his show , you will not hear that. Also, Mitch Albom claims Michael Savage should be kept off the air no matter the location and implied he should be censored.

Since my move from Detroit to the Jackson area, I no longer have to suffer with Albom and his 'musical' acts. Jackson's talk radio station plays SEAN HANNITY after Rush!

I kind of like Savage for my drive home which takes about 1/2 hour. More than that could easily be too much. I think he can be entertaining and is right about his beliefs (borders language culture) but he frequently seems really hard on his staff, unnecessarily rude to callers and does way too much name calling. Even with what the caller was saying to him I thought Savage should have had the sense to just hang up on him instead of his ridiculous name calling. He just isn't ready for even non-prime time.

"Michael Savage was set up"BS!!! His outspokenness and lack of knowledge of studio procedures cost him his job. He is in possession of an advanced degree, unless he purchased it from Sally Struthers he should be more on the ball than that.
To: Liberatio
He was set up? LOL! He's an experienced broadcaster and the Golden Rule of broadcasting is to ALWAYS assume the mike is open. If he doesn't know that by now, he doesn't belong on the air.

I agree with what he said.
Now, Mike Moore with his book: "Stupid White Men" he should be fired!

Well, the second comment would be slanderous.

It is irrelevant. GLAAD tried to do it to Dr. Laura too. Savage should have recognized it for what it was and hung up.

I've never heard Stern's radio show, but I did read his book. Stern was fired once, after he'd earned quite a name for himself.
It was not an insignifigant bump in the road of Mr. Stern's career path, to be sure. But Stern is a fairly strong-minded man. After he was picked up by a competing local station, he went on to compete against his former bosses with the zeal that only a truly spurned man will know. In due course, his former station withered on the vine, leaving Stern to cackle with glee.
There are those here who dislike Savage, yes, but who here thinks of Savage as weak-minded? Who here thinks that that Savage is not vindictive? Certainly it would not please him to hear me say so, but for all of his poignant humor, I would place vindictiveness at the tippy-top of Michael's qualities, and I shudder to think of what he would like to do to KSFO ratings in his slot...
In fairness, let me say that I would do EXACTLY the same thing.
Let's think back, years back, to when Michael started, in order to divine the future: As Michael's radio career slowly first started to take off, it became less and less a means to carve out a living, serving more and more as a bludgeoning tool with which to beat his former academic foes: "I wanted to count myself among your number, and you hurt me".
Recall that they, too, pushed him off of the Ivory Tower. They, too, thought Michael would go ker-splat.
Instead, Michael thrived on the outside, and as his ratings swelled, he wasn't "big" about his win. He greedily salted up the dagger, and set about his gristly revenge with a clinical precision.
And so it shall be this time.

No sane news outlet would touch him after this.

He thought the caller was cut off the air Bull. I've seen the replay three times, and he relished what he said; he never waved his hand to take the caller off the air.
Savage's "apology" was a big fat lie.

Unless what Albom said wasn't true, it's not slander. If your complaint is just Albom was saying mean things about him, whoop-de-doo. Savage does that every single day.

Michael Savage was set up. Read the proof at http://www.homestead.com/prosites-prs/savagesetup.html I read the article linked, and no, he wasn't "set up." A "set up" would involve some sort of plot to get him fired. That's not what happened.
What happened was that Savage overreacted to one of those looooosers whose life revolves around getting free plugs for their favorite shock jocks (usually Stern, this time Stern-wannabes Don & Mike). If Savage had just called him a worthless piece of slime, he would still be working for MSNBC -- but instead, he brought up sodomy and whether the jackass was a "sodomite."
Mike has no one to blame but himself.

He's also a self-absorbed, stinking hypocrite like all liberals. Where was Albom when Julianne Malveaux made her comments about wishing Clarence Thomas would die from a heart-attack? Or Spike Lee wishing to brain him with a baseball bat? Of course Malveaux and Lee are fellow liberals so they don't count.

Well . . . in this one, I am ignorant of Albom, so I stand corrected. I just find Savage so bad and hurtful to our cause, that my kneejerk reaction is to believe anything bad about him...sort of like Hitlery (I'm SURE she has a good quality, but no one has yet demonstrated it to me). Sorry about mouthing off.

Mike has no one to blame but himself. I agree. I checked out his site this afternoon, and saw a full page of "they set me up." Please.
Victimology is not an attractive quality in someone who wants the respect of his conservative listeners. I'd hire someone who made a big mistake and stood up straight afterwards. I wouldn't hire someone who made even a lesser mistake but attempted to push it off.
