One more point about your theory of a "revenge leak." The reliable Glenn Reynolds (the pundit of Instapundit and a law professor at the University of Tennessee) clerked for Merritt. He
vouches for Merritt's integrity.
I really don't see any good reason to think that some kind of slippery skullduggery is at work in this case. Merritt is probably simply reporting what happened in his dealings with a lone Iraqi informant, just as he says.

Look who the expert is....
There was no significant pattern of cooperation between Iraq and the al-Qaida terrorist operation," former State Department intelligence official Greg Thielmann said this week.

William we have another name to research...
Vince Cannistraro, a former CIA counterterrorism chief, said last week it's still unclear how much support Zarqawi and his followers got from Saddam.
"That he (Saddam) was promoting al-Qaida is absurd," Cannistraro said. "That there was a tolerance for a Zarqawi network in Iraq seems clear."
Little alarm bells are telling me I think we may have found Wilkinson.
Google this guy and look how many stories he is quoted in as the AQ---Saddam connection expert..

Cannistraro headed the Contras in Nicaragua. He hasn't been in the CIA for ages.

ROTFLMCO! This has got to be really embarrassing to these creeps with the recording that came out today. When are they going to learn that when they attack Bush, the truth comes out?
Even I figured out that the attacks were attracting the terrorists, why can't these so-called smart guys figure it out?

Yes Mo. He is part of the smear........notice how he was asked for a quoted about the Saddam-Al Qaeda connection today....but have you seen any reporting of that story that is in breaking news about the Judge finding the connection in Iraq. See what they are doing is they are trying to discredit an unreported story....neat huh?

"The relationships that were plotted were episodic, not continuous," the former official said. Meaning they met only on Tuesdays, instead of daily, I suppose.

How this guy, who was retired in 1986, would have any idea what is in current intelligence is beyond me. But back in the mid-80s, only the Washington Times would use his quotes. The rest of the media completely ignored him.
Now, when he could not possibly have knowledge, they are quoting him. Funny that.

Might have something to due with the fact he always seems to have a different take on what the Bush Administration is trying to say......quite odd.

And how do we like that the criteria now has to be continuous relationships rather than the admitted episodic relationship? Talk about raising the bar...

Yeah - blogging has no appeal - too many people looking for something on a regular basis. Whereas a book can be written at your leisure - even if it takes years.
