BOOKING LAYOFFS

Predictions in the slumping book industry that blockbusters like New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clintons tell-little biography would revive sales are dying fast.

Washington Whispers is told that Simon and Schuster publisher of Clintons 'Living History,' is planning a second round of layoffs.

One reason: Advances to Authors are too high.

It's time for Hillary! and Daschle to release a joint statement about the publisher's lay-offs saying that they are deeply saddened, and they want Congress to investigate the Bush administration and find out who is at fault, at once.

Oh, maybe Hillary will give back her $8,000,000.00 so Simon and Schuster can avoid laying off their employees...That amount would go along way in salaries, don't you know !!

JULY 31, 2003...in response to all-but-pathetic sales of former First Lady/US Senator/lying scumbucket Hillary Rodham Clinton Cougar Mellencamp's book "Lying Hysterically", Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Hell) today introduced a bill making it a "hate crime" not to purchase one of Senator Clinton's books. "This bill will promote tolerance and diversity. Anyone who disagrees with it is a racist homophobe!" When asked how exactly one could square the bill with other documents such as the US Constitution, Sen. Boxer replied, "How the Hell should I know? I have an IQ lower than that of a Cocker Spaniel. Are you a racist? What's the frequency, Kenneth?? The cheese stands alone!"

Well, the question is whether the 8 million buckaroos were a good investment from the point of view of Simon and Schuster. I put the breakeven point on this at right around 3 million copies (assuming, very roughly, that the author normally makes 10-15% on hardbounds and that the book sells for an average of about $20 a copy). It was a bad bet, but it wasn't that bad a bet. It simply needed to be a better book, but you can't tell that at the time of writing an advance check.

So it turned out to be pretty much what many of us had predicted - a means for that company to put $8 million into the hands of a favored politician, recover some of it from the public and write off the rest as a business loss. So what else is new?

But wait a minute, didn't I read a few weeks back that Simon & Shuster claimed Hillary's book was in the black? It seems to me that right at the end of the first week after the release there were stories in all of the papers that S&S was gloating that the naysayers were wrong and that they had already recouped there money and were turning a profit. As a matter of fact they were rushing another 500,000 copies to print due to the overwhelming demand.

Was I dreaming or does anyone else remember this?

LOL - yeah, it was "in the black" from the moment it was printed, depending on how they're counting.

So we're hiring an accountant, see, and the boss asks the first guy "how much is 2 plus 2?" He says, "4," and the boss says "don't call us, we'll call you." The boss asks the next guy, "how much is 2 plus 2?" "Four," the guy says, and the boss says "there's the door." The third guy he asks "how much is 2 plus 2?" and the guy gets up, closes the door, lowers the blinds, leans forward and asks "how much do you want it to be?" He was hired.

Most of Her Heinous' books "sold" are still sitting in huge displays in the front of bookstores, unwanted. They'll all be in the $3 bin before long where they still won't sell. Eventually, they'll be carted to the dump for a tax writeoff.

This was a scam and "legal" $8 million political payoff right from the beginning, just like Fort Worthless Jim Wright's pasted together screed which was bought by the tons with labor union dues.

The upcoming multi-million $ book by Bubba is more of the same scam.

Was at the local Sam's Club yesterday. They had "Lying History" in a prominent rack (marked down), with about five other boods in similar displays next to it. The cases for the other books were half-emptied, people were buying them. The boxes for Hillary's fiction were full - I don't think a single book had been bought. It was a stark contrast!

And this only a month or two after the release of the "biggest selling book in history"! Where are the Simon & Schuster hypesters now, after all their brave statements in the first few days after the book's release?

I think that they're part of the Coca-Cola conglomerate, so this pay-off probably applies across the board, in which case, the Coca-Cola conglomerate will bail them out.
