Can't just let the girl go home in peace today.Wouldn't that be nice--but Reuters has to use Pfc. Lynch as a basis for their hit piece.
I do hope after today that the media leaves her alone. She's been in the hospital almost three months and she has a lot of rehabbing to go--but she's going home and that has to be sweet for her.

Why is this young lady's name virtually the ONLY name that most Americans have heard regarding the POWs? I clearly remember that there were other POWs, weren't there? And where was their TV coverage? Are the guys who rescued her heroes? What are their names? Is this madness or what?

Amen. If - and I'm saying IF - there had been media hype about her capture, captivity and/or rescue - none of it was her doing at all. She faced enormous danger, endured enormous pain, and survived. Whether she did it with a smile on her face or a tear in her eye is really immaterial. We should not let any quibbling about the underlying details diminish from celebrating her survival.

You're thinking about the old "Audie Murphy" definition of
"hero". That word has been borrowed by our media whores and remade to be synonymous with the word "victim".

What were the motivations (and even the identities) of the leakers and sustainers of this myth, and why didn't reporters dig deeper into it more quickly? The story had an odor to it almost from the beginning," he said."
Through no fault of hers, I believe it's a case of feminists exploiting her because she's female. The media makes a cursory mention of the nine soldiers that died from her group.
She's no hero. The rescue was also staged. I would like to know if she was the driver of the vehicle in which case, the lie would be even more obscene. Another word (hero) has been given a new meaning just like gay, ghetto, etc., and many people are accepting the new definition.
Wasn't it the Chesire cat who said "words mean what I want them to mean"?

One would think that she is the second coming. Was she the only soldier wounded in Iraq and coming back to the states?

The rescue was also staged. It was? I've never heard this from any media source. Do you have inside knowledge or a source for this assertion?

The rescue was not staged. That is ridiculous.
What I am interested in is why all these stories were leaked that had nothing to do with what happened.
While you may think they came from the military, I am just as inclined to think that all those "unnamed sources" were made up in order to raise expectations, only to debunk the story later and blame it on the military.

Take your complaint up with the media. The family has done little except talk about others, such as her friends who were killed, the people who recued her, and those still in Iraq.
They have been on television very little and have not said much except they will be glad to get her home.
To: laweeks
I agree with you. I have been thinking the same thing.

Call me picky, grouchy, bitter, whatever adjective would fit, but why the hell does she get her own private Blackhawk to take her home? Are all the rest of our wounded getting their own Blackhawk ride home? Why does she deserve special consideration?
Nevermind, I already know the answer.

Is she getting a Blackhawk? I missed that.

"The failure here was that the news media got to thinking the government could be trusted to reflect reality," said Carolyn Marvin, professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. You know, something is terribly wrong with this statement. This person is assuming that the media "CARED" what the government thought! The media MAKES UP their own stories without the help of the government. I think this so-called professor should go back and take another class of communication. She is not doing any better than the media!

Now I see it in the article (which proves one should read carefully).
I will wait to see what she arrives in, since this is a hhit piece. It could be a local National Guard copter, or it could be a medical transport chopper...OR she could arrive in a CAR and the whole thing is a made-up factoid.
