You know, many states seem to have these "pretrial intervention " programs. NJ certainly does. What it basically equals is a "free pass" on a first offense. You go into the program, never stand trial and if you stay out of trouble for 6-24 mos, your record disappers. Now, if you get in trouble again within that time period, you can be brought up on the original charge as well.
If your kid gets caught drinking in a park maybe you think it's a great program. On the other hand, it equals pretending that a person never did something that is supposed to be against the law.
