"Dalai Lama misses sex, shoots guns "

What a misleading title. It depicts a picture of a man who misses sex and enjoys going target practicing.

How can one miss something they have never had?

And who are you to criticize another mans religion?

I certainly have never heard of any Buddhists killing another man because s/he believed differently than he.

The Christians/Muslims and the Catholics certainly can not claim the same.

The Crusades might have killed a lot of people, but think about all the fellowship it may have garnered in the ranks.

Sometimes, you just need to go out and blow off some steam with some of your buddies.

I have a VERY simple cut and dry take on things: ANY religious leader who KILLS or orders others to KILL is either:
(a) representing a totally screwed up religion OR
(b) is himself screwed up and is screwing up a perfectly good religion by his violence.

For the Dalai Lama, I was tending towards (b). I'm sorry. I DO NOT FORGIVE a religious leader, who has had a life time living his religion taking to the dark side. He HAS NO BUSINESS being a religious leader. What is he more likely to teach me? "Killing birds are good if you're angry?"

with all due respect, perhaps you should re-read the article because it never mentioned anything about him killing birds. It said that he used the air rifle to scare away the hawks when he is feeding peaceful birds, not to kill them.

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on
as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a
caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you
think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama.
The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee
with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one
-- big hitter, the Lama -- long, into a ten-thousand foot crevice, right
at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Lama says? Gunga
galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's
gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little
something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh,
there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will
receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

A religious leader that shoots at a living thing in anger? Sorry, that doesn't scan for me. I refuse to accept that he's an acceptable leader of anything with that kind of behavior

No, I guess he should follow the example of some of our homegrown "Christian" leaders and just go ahead and do it and then lie about it. Just because he is a religious leader does not mean he is not human. If one feels that total moral perfection is necessary in a religious leader one will have a very long wait to find such a being. ALL leaders of ALL faiths should just hang it up now. Being human means being imperfect, it is part of our job description. If it wasn't we would not be called human we would be called God What we need to do is work to over come our imperfections. It's the learning that's important not the fact that we at all times do everything perfectly. At least the Dali Lama has the personal integrity to admit his lack of perfection publicly. I'll take the him any day over the likes of Jimmy Swagart and his ilk.

You might want to reread the article. No where does it say he KILLS in anger. He fires an air rifle to scare off hawks. I on the other hand have killed with great anger if not glee. I kill cockroaches with total abandon. Does this mean therefor I am morally unfit to care for the sick and feed the hungry among the human population? I am sure if you search your soul you too have killed in anger. Either that or every bug, snake, rat or disease caring mouse should head to your home for sanctuary

Jimmy Swagart and his ilk.

Even the "ilk" don't claim Jimmy!

Jimmy's cathederal should be fashioned after an "outhouse."

For me, personally, I take neither.

And right they should. Don't you think however that if Jimmy had not blown it (no pun intend) twice that he would not still be in the position he once held? There was no crisis of moral conscious that stopped him or he would have resigned of his own accord so he could pursue his carnal pleasure with at least a shred of personal honesty. It was the lies that destroyed the faith of many of his followers.

I wonder why so many religions don't have married priests.
Who knows more about celibacy than a married man?
