Why do I suspect that the "public editor" will be among the most doctrinaire leftist ideologues at the Times?

"Behind the Blair story lay a misguided pattern of tough supervision and lenient forgiveness that led to retaining him, and in fact promoting him, when at several points he was demonstrating that he was not ready to join the staff of The New York Times," the report said. Balderdash. Liberals can't think themselves out of a paper bag when they are on a PC high.
PC'ness is like a drug to them, the way self-loathing liberals can feel good about themselves.
NYT liberals were so full of "tolerance and compassion" watching Blair trod the halls
of the pure-white Times, that they couldn't recognize wrongdoing when it hit 'em in the face.

Well, bringing in three new guys is a good start. But, and I only speak for myself here, and not for all of America, there better to be extreme consideration given to some diversity candidates. The NYT can only be improved by having more black folks on the payroll.
Here is a good opportunity to get input from Al Sharpton, Harry Belafonte and some of the other great black thinkers of the age. We don't need more aging white lefties. If the NYT is ever to catch up to the National Enquirer, it must improve its diversity statistics!

From the article: ~
"The ombudsman, ...will examine coverage, review reader complaints and write a periodic column in the newspaper..." The New York Times is JUST NOW hiring an ombudsman?!
What unbelievable hubris we have had to endure all these years.

The report found that the "real culprits" in the Blair scandal were "deeply flawed structures, attitudes and processes." In particular, the committee cited a "failure to communicate" among editors and said that "in the New York Times newsroom, silos had replaced sharing." For professional wordsmiths, these people really do say some stupid sh*t.

The NYT has lots its compass, and it's over for them. Hiring a low level staff guy to police the operation won't do the trick. If they don't have their own moral compass, which they don't, this won't help. The paper will never regain its reputation.

Unless the junior Sulzberger decides to back off, it's definitely over for them.

That's what they said for public consumption. I can only imagine what Pinch's father said in the privacy of their home after finding out his lame-brained scion (with the diluted DNA) had royally screwed-up on his precious NYT.

This could be an opportunity for conservatives in America. When the NYTimes finally announces the name of the "Public Editor" all FReepers sould make note of his/her e-mail address and flood this person with complaints regarding Left-wing media bias every time it is found there.
Either the complaints will be ignored (in which case this forum can be used to expose the Leftist bias of the Times), or the complaints will be acted upon (finally!!).
Either way, we win--but only if we act.

...re-examine the newspaper's policies on datelines, bylines and anonymous sources.I think I heard Fox News announce that Bob Hope's NYT obit was written by someone who has been deceased for two years now. Pretty much cutting edge reporting...
