Senate Passes 'Democrat' Energy Bill

The U.S. Senate approved an energy bill Thursday night, but there's still a lot of work to do before Senate and House negotiators agree on a final version."The president looks forward to working with the conferees to ensure that we enact a balanced and comprehensive energy policy this year," the White House said in a statement released after the Senate passed the bill on a vote of 84-11. Sen. Pete Domenici, a New Mexico Republican, already is promising to rework the bill in a conference committee. "The reason I'm smiling is because I'm going to be rewriting that bill," wire reports quoted him as saying.

Sen. Tom Daschle, a South Dakota Democrat, said he never dreamed that Democrats "could pass a Democratic bill in a Republican Congress." Among other things, the Senate-passed bill would boost the use of corn-based ethanol in gasoline - a boon to Daschle's South Dakota and other farm states; it would provide $16-billion in tax breaks and incentives to promote energy production and conservation; and it would encourage production of a natural gas pipeline in Alaska. Unlike the House-passed energy bill, however, the Senate version does not even mention oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Senate Republicans fold again.

Looks like Daschle wields more power, than Frist.

It's a Republican Congress??

Next thing will know, someone will tell us the both the Senate AND Presidency are GOP controlled as well, but no...

...That would mean the GOP would already be controlling the judiciary, fiscal spending, and shrinking the government.

Frist is a faggot. I'm surprised he doesn't allow Schumer and Clinton to "fist" him on the Senate floor. I don't see how he is any improvement over Lott. God forbid he make the Democrats perform a REAL fillibuster like Jefferson Smith in "Mr Smith Goes to Washington". Can you imagine Ted Kennedy standing up for 24 straight minutes, let alone 24 hours? If we enforced real fillibusters the Dems would be shown as obstructors of the nation's business, and bigoted for blocking Conservative Minority candidates. But "Mr Smith" was not a fantasy...the Senate is indeed corrupt, and I'm sure there were plenty of goodies in this bill for Tennessee to make Frist abandon principle for "compromise". He is a twit.

I do cling to one slim hope that when the House and Senate versions go to conference, the final version will be closer to the House version.
