There is a "very real potential" that the al-Qaida terrorism network could again strike the United States, Attorney General John Ashcroft said Sunday.

"Al-Qaida is still bent on injuring the United States," he said. Ashcroft later said that he believes Osama bin Laden's organization wants "to strike us whenever and wherever they can."

Brit was waaaaay to easy on Att. Gen Ashcroft this morning. As a citizen curious to know more about sneak and peek seaches and other Patriot Act related issues, especially in the wake of the overwhelming vote in the House rescinding certain powers, I would have preferred to see Ashcroft facing Russert. It's no wonder Russert leads the pack.

So we delayed and obstructed the 911 hearings into how this mess came about and now we are told to expect another one. Thanks George

Al-Zawahri, is evidence of the continued threat.

Where is this pig? Lets find him and kill him, then bury him with a pig's foot stuck up his anus.

Every time one of these animal psychos threatens American's lives we should make it a top priority to find and kill them.

The only way to stop terroist attacks in this nation is martial law. At least they are warning us.

Used to be some threads here about klintoon declaring martial law under similiar conditions, most seemed to imply that under no circumstances was it acceptable.

I'm interested to hear what all these new provisions to the Patriot Act will be (the ones Ashcroft touched on this morning)...

Good idea. Then let's tell the Muslim world that if we are attacked again plan on one of your large cities to be leveled in 24 hrs. The next one we destroy Mecca. Want to bet that we will not have to go to Mecca.

That's a bit arrogant planning to add to the "Patriot" Act when parts of it are being stripped in the House.

The tape warns America that it will pay dearly if it harms detainees at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, and it urges Muslims to avenge the prisoners.

We already paid dearly. That's why the detainees are at Gitmo...they are part of a group of murderers!

Indeed. Ashcroft said some provisions are being addressed in the House already, but it sounded like the Administration has a proposal in the works.

Hopefully, it's a proposal to repeal it, but I doubt it.

It's defintely not that...

Ashcroft cited examples of a couple changes, but I can't remember them at the moment. The gist of both was increased federal powers.
