Some of the stuff he says is pretty amusing. I'm sure he could be well over the line though in debating. Here's an example that caused me to chuckle:

Ted Holden wrote:

>>Morphology. After us and neanderthals (and archaic homo-sapiens, >>whatever that turns out to be), the next closest thing is terribly >>ape-like in comparison, and the same problem arises.

>Do the names "Homo erectus" and "Homo habilis" ring a bell? They are >the next closest things to us, and they are more human-like than >apelike. Are you claiming that the Homo erectus skeleton WT 15000 is an >ape?

If one were to walk up to me, I'd hand him a bannanna...

That may be the understatement of the year ;)

Anyway, I more or less recall the circumstances of his departure, which are probably not all that terribly interesting to anyone any more - but, yes, medved was Ted Holden.

He was banned for spamming. I have my viewpoint, but I don't pay the bills here and if I don't like it, I will leave. Some here would give copious amounts of body parts to see that happen. I won't humor them.

For that which comes out is no new creation." (Science, Jan. 20, 1922; from an address by Professor William Bateson addressing a group of scientists in Toronto) So talk.origins is still using an experiment for evidence for evolution that was rejected by the scientific community as long ago as 1922

This is a gross misrepresentation. Rejection by one person (Bateson) does not count as "rejected by the scientific community". One dissent does not a consensus make -- and the "scientific community" is a community of consensus.

I can't find any details on the reason for Bateson's dissent, but it's probably significant that Bateson was a strong advocate of the "saltation" hypothesis of evolution ("hopeful monsters"), which has long been discredited. As such, it seems likely that he rejected the example on ideological grounds because, like DittoJed2, he had a personal overestimate about how "big" a speciation event would have to look.

If anything, you have it backwards -- it's Bateson's paradigm which has been "rejected by the scientific community".

I don't have an overestimation. I know you all say it happened gradually and that means baby steps. I'm saying it can't happen the way you say it. Sheesh! I understand you guys and am not being "naive" as I was accused of being earlier. I just disagree with the genetic possibilities of what Evolution claims as being true. Mutation has a stopping point and kind sticks with kind (and several subsections within the kind).

Medved's links are also in the above site, but he feels that his links are so wonderful that they should appear in all their glory in each new thread.

Try laying guilt trips on somebody stupid enough to feel guilty on account of your crybaby antics; it simply isn't going to work with me.

I want newcomers to have easy (undiluted) access to as much good information on these topics as possible and I don't see asking them to wade through your gargantuan info slagheap as doing that.

Basically, I see your request for self-censorship on the part of others as a basically dishonest sort of a propagandist's ploy to limit the other guy's access to media bandwidth, and you as a propagandist.

Here's a few facts ...

all the evos do is repress the truth -- freedom -- speech -- thinking ---

try to get creationists like als - me - babejen banned !

Als was accused of fabicating quotes that he only edited and summarized haphazardly !

I confronted RWP on how he chop quoted the pope's sentence to REVERSE the meaning --- MUCH worse offense and he leaves in a huff (( which you all continue to do )) !

RWP AH2 and PH all take pride and admit their material mindset will not allow any evalution of it and publicly state that all philosophy is a joke ---
is unecessary and blather on and pout like children referencing nonsenses !

Everytime als has outed the evos they whine and get the thread pulled because they are embarassed and then like you the guilty ... blame the innocent !

Also evos like ph spam the FR --- put up all their liberal rhetoric - lies and links and then cry to the moderators to have our posts and links pulled and like medved - als banned permanently --- sorta the ussc pet --- monsters !

Obviously you all are never in reality and just expect whatever you think and want ... the world to go along with --- WHACKOS !

LOL! Wish I had seen him around. I imagine he could be entertaining.

Did a search on F.R. for his posts. This one looked like an interesting one. (not related to this debate) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/744698/posts

Pheobe Debates The Theory of Evolution

Posted by conservababeJen to All; Alamo-Girl; betty boop; Junior; PatrickHenry; Right Wing Professor; balrog666; Aric2000; ...

On The Smokey Backroom 07/29/2003 6:38 AM PDT #761 of 2,722

ALS emailed the following to me from work and asked that I post it on his behalf......

I wish to extend an offer to draw up an agreement. The draft to be proffered by Alamo-Girl, the draft be posted in this thread, and to be refined by all parties willing to afterwards sign and abide by that agreement.

The agreement will consist of accepted guidelines and the protections of all who sign will be shared amongst us all and enforced by us all.

The final agreement will be put up on more than one website and distributed to all to make sure it isn't altered without the consent of all signators.

Any newbies coming into the crevo threads, when their behavior appears to violate the agreement, will be given an opportunity to sign on and partake of its protections and blessings.

Perhaps we can start a groundswell that exemplifies the true nature of Conservatives in their incessant desire to resolve issues rather than foment them.

Cash aka ALS

My apologies to anyone whom I forgot to ping

als banned 8 - 15 - 2003 ? ? ?

Here's a few actual facts about Ted's sudden departure. Ted got himself banned by defying the request of the moderators to stop posting 20 page spams to every crevo thread - they asked him to stop, and he rather stupidly did so anyway, and did so deliberately. Post whatever you like here, but you pick a fight with the mods at your own risk, as Ted can attest.

As for that other one you mention, I wasn't privy to the decision to show him the door, and I really don't know for a fact what it was that triggered it. Ask around, but from what I hear, you might not like the answer too much.

Evos say that apes and we share a common ancestor? True or false?

I didn't see that you got a simple answer. This one would be true.

All this behind-the-scenes cloak-and-dagger stuff - ya gotta love it ;)

More seriously, I prefer not to post what would amount to my own speculation based on a few incomplete reports about those recent events. But if my understanding is correct, then banning was a rather milder expression of disapproval than was deserved in that case.

Are there mutations that apes have that humans don't have?

This is one of those questions from creationists that I don't understand.

I think most folks use the term to mean something very different, rather than just different. My nose doesn't look like your nose, but that's not a mutation. But if I have sickle cell, I have a "mutation".

So if you mean is there something very different between apes and men, the answer is yes. Once the ape genomes are completed and compared against the human genome, there should be a very good list of differences.

Of course it'll be awhile before the genes are identified and we're going to have to wait it out.

You know what he tells you happened. Why don't you see if you can find the rest of the story?

Or maybe you already know and approve of what happened - in which case, we have nothing more to discuss.
