LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Seeking to defuse the campaign of Republican rival Arnold Schwarzenegger, California gubernatorial hopeful Arianna Huffington on Thursday blasted the movie star as a "good friend of the Bush administration" beholden to special interests.

"Arnold Schwarzenegger is a Bush Republican through and through," said the best-selling author, who is running as an independent in the October 7 special election to recall Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

"I think it is very important for people who are blessed with a lot of privileges to take up the causes of those who need to have a greater voice in our democracy," she said.

Well, that's nice to hear, ZsaZsa. I look forward to hearing about the homeless person you are letting live in your guest room, eat your food, and siphon off of your bank account.

The Arianna campaign shifts into, uh, second gear. Here's a major, perhaps startling revelation, capable of influencing 1000s, or 100s, or dozens, or maybe a voter toward or away from Ahnold.

"Democrats in turn blame Bush for the weak economy and for federal policies that made the energy crisis much worse."

Yeah, right. From what I recall California's energy problems started as early as 1999 with the rolling blackouts. While California may have been taken advantage of in some cases, they created this problem by making themselves dependent on outside sources. They became the junky who needed a fix regardless of the price...and had to pay it because they destroyed their own domestic supply. The liberals in California exemplify the Not In My Backyard syndrome. Just as the liberals in Nantucket don't want windfarms in their neighborhoods...or the PBS station (WETA) that didn't want day-laboreres across from their business, the liberals in California didn't want energy-producing factories in their state. They love the benefits of all that energy; they just don't want those nasty factories in their back-yards. It could actually be argued that it is California that has been a drag on the US economy and not the other way around. The Dot.Com busts, the energy crisis and outright government mismanagement all hit California before it hit the rest of the nation. And just as Clinton cooked his books with a fallacious 30% projection of growth over the last two years, so did Gray Davis as he hid the truth about California's economic mess.

Arianna loved republicans until she stole half of huff's money. She loved oil companies until she became so rich she didn't need them anymore. She loved her suvs until she saw that she could exploit them. She is a fraud, straight up. She is the definition of 'whore'. Her pic should be in the dictionary:

WHORE http://mmstn02.sac2.fastsearch.net/322586f3000010ab0000040900009251> Sean Hannity destroyed her the other day. He asked 'have you flown on private jets? Is your house 8000 or 10,000 sq ft and how much does it cost to heat and cool? Did you have an suv. Doesn't your 'good friend and bankroller, norm lear, have a 29 car garage at ONE of his homes alone? How can you crit oil co's when that is how you got rich?? When she is off script, she is as dumb as a post. Some of her comments were..." I never took a private plane that wasn't going somewhere"...(?!?) "I don't care what people think!" The other day she was picked up by a limo and at her mansion and driven to the south central hood to announce her candidacy. I'm sure her doors were locked, she avoided every black person near her from the hood, and had her armed entourage ready to shoot if necessary. She cheats on taxes, money that would go to social programs...etc,etc... I learned all of this about her in 5 minutes. Libs have not mentioned any of this...She makes me sick. <img src=

"Recall supporters have blamed Davis for California's budget deficit -- which until a recent budget deal had stood at $38 billion, but is now at $8 billion..."

CNN never tires of misleading, do they? Conveniently omitted from this statement is the fact that California borrowed all those billions at exorbitant interest rates, to make the state look more solvent on paper. We are actually in worse financial condition now than we were before this "deficit lowering" deal was cut. But CNN would like to make it sound as though the state's financial problem has miraculously gone away.

If the reports are correct, I think there ended up being only 1 non vote...4 others were absentee ballots while he was filming on location, which didn't get sent by

I think she has made herself Davis's and the democrats' mouthpiece for their usual smear campaign. Probably she hopes to be rewarded by being backed by the party for an elective seat, especially if she draws a few votes in this election. My guess is she will totally fall flat.

What's funny is that by calling him a "Bush Republican," she just added to his total; and many of the people on this board, by insisting he isn't a conservative, are increasing his chances of winning even more.

I think a lot of Californians---more than in 2000---love Bush, and an even larger number of Californians don't like conservatives. If conservatives REALLY wanted to derail Arnold, they would be looking for photo-ops with him!!

Ariana does make an interesting connection. Arnold is, well, Arnold, and is wholly sincere, if not very sophisticated in his positions. Many of his beliefs are just flatly naive, and should he be elevated to the governorship, would be sharply assaulted, especially by the suave and cultured icons of what passes for "liberal" intelligentsia and cognoscenti. Which Bush already is.

Thus, by association, Arnold and Dubya will be placed in the same box, Conan the Barbarian and the Cowboy. The Terminator and the Jet Jockey. (Does Arnold have an action figure yet?)

I am sure, should Arnold somehow manage to become governor of California, he would be welcome in the White House in a way few others now competing for the job would be. Nobody beats Arnold on name or face recognition. A few people might miss identifying Dubya.
